I want to especially thank the large number of fanners that have acted as leaders in their neighbor hood and community in conducting demonstrations with new practices and> carrying worthwhile informa tion to others. I also want to express my appre ciation to the many business estab lishments throughout the county, and the Raeford Kiwanis Cluh, for their cooperation in sponsoring, with the Extension Service, worth while projects designed to improve agriculture-. I want to express ap preciation to other agricultural,^ •agencies and others working with farmers, and to the school officials, for their loyalty, and desire to serve farmers through their pro grams. It has been a pleasure to work with these people, and much has been accomplished through the cooperation. To the schools, I especially appreciated the privilege of working wuth 4-H members and other groups. The News-Journal, local newspaper, has been most cooperative, for which I am thank ful. ' While the progress of agriculture and family living in Hoke Countty has been gratifying, I believe that the period'^ust ahead promises to be one of importance. A perman ent and prosperous long time farm program cannot be based on the sA-called, “Cash” crops alone, but liiust be in balance with livestock. The ground Work has been laid for a livestock program on a num ber of farms during the past two jtears I hope the program will, con tinue. About 85 percent of the present income is derived from approximately 30 percent of fhe crop land. How to get more income from the other part of the land is of major im'portance It appears to me that a pasturb and feed pro gram with livestock would fit into the program on a number of farms. Some farms could grow beef cattle, some could have a small dairy, others could have hogs or poultry. i ^hose wenitmt u Cdonty satisfy fbe every treei e man Agent of agriculture in Hoica Cottn^, and who wiR be satislaelory to every farmer. I ^all always bold fond memories of the yeof^ and the work in Hoke County, My interest now is in the welfare of the farm er, it has been in the past and will continue in .the future- Sincerely, A. S.
