All officers Si;'j^.-vj^e present and an unusually large numiber of members. Since there was no business of impor tance, new or old, the chairman, Mrs. H. L. Gatlin, Jr. appointed i^the program committee for next year's programs, and also a nomi nating comnnittee, as all present officers go out at the end of this club year. vThe program for the afternoon proved most interesting and very instructive. Mrs. A. D. Gore gave a sketch of the life of a notoel prize winner. She read selections and told the source of the prize. Mrs. .Tom Cameron gave selections from the literature of China which re pealed the philosophy of the Chinese people. Coming at this time when China and its welfare lead in current news, the dis course was well received'. After the program delicious re freshments were served by Mrs. Upchurch, assisted by the co hostesses, hfrs. A. K. Stevens and Sfrs. Kerr Stevens. 0 MRS. McGOOGAN CLUB HOSTESS m 9 ,Mrs. John McGoogan was hostess to the senior bridge club at her home last Friday afternoon. The^g were two tables in play with Mrs. Archie Howard, Mrs. Alfred Cole and 'Mrs. Herbert MeKeithan guests of the club. Mrs. Benton Thomas won the prize -and Mrs Cole the visitor’s prize. Mrs. 'McGoogan served a salad plate after the game. -0 BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT Mr. emd Mrs. John K. McNeill. Jr. announce the birth of a son, Stephen McMahan, Thursday, January 20, at a Lunfiberton hos pital. Mrs. McNeill and son returned to their home^here Tuesday. Mrs. Carl I^orris is convalescing after a recent operation at Moore County hospital and -expects to come home soon. While Mr. and Mrs. Morris are in the hospital Mrs. Morris’ sister-in-law, Mrs. Fowler, is keeping house and look ing after little Julia Morris. MRS. HARE, RECENT BRIDE, HONORED Mrs. Earl Hare of Aberdeen, formerly Miss Catherine Mclnnis of Rockfi^, was shown ah attrac tive bridal courtesy last Friday evening when ^e was honored at miscellaneous diower at the Rockfish community house. Host esses were Mrs. A. W. Wood, Mrs. F. P. Bethea, Mrs. E. T. Brock, Mrs. M. L. 'I Wood, Miss Lillie Wood and Mrs. K. P. Ritter. The room was tastefully deco rated with spring flowers. Guesfe enjoyed a few quiet games and contests for which prizes were given, after which Mrs. Hare was blindfolded and asked to blow out a candle on the taible before her. The candle was removed and when all attempts to blow it out failed the blindfold was removed reveal ing a large box, covered in white, piled high with gifts, which were both beautiful and useful. A delicious chicken salad plate with accessories, cup cakes and cokes were served to the large number present. BOYS & GIRLS ENJOY OUTING AT CABIN MRS. W. T. GIBSON HOSTESS TO CLUB Mrs. W. T. Gibson Was hostess to the Wednesday afternoon club last week; On arrival members a- long with "Mrs. Ray Muench and Mrs. Marcus Smith, visitors for the afternoon,, were served a dessert course.,; After several pro- pressions of bridge Mrs. Neil Senter was awarded high score prize and also captured the float ing prize. Mrs. Smith won visitor’s high score prize. 0 Pat Maxwell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Maxwell, has been sick for the past several days. Mrs. Paul McDonald of Timber- land entertained a number of pre- teen age boys and girls at thie Ic- Doriald cabin on Friday night. This was in honor of Mrs. Mc Donald’s daughter Nancy’s birth day. The crowd gathered at Mrs. Younger Snead’s where a truck picked them up and took them to the cabin-on-the-pond. Here they had supper and played games. At a late hour the boys were brought home but the girls all spent the night and had breakfast, return ing the njsxt morning. Nancy receivtd many pretty birthday gifts and the boys and *#► girls had a “grand” time according to enthusiastic reports from them. —0 , MR.'AND MRS. UPCHURCH ENTERTAINCLUB Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Upchurch, Jr.' entertained the members of their bridge club Saturday even ing. Visitors other than club mem bers were Mr. and Mrs. Buck Me Phaul and -Miss Doris Bradley. When scores were totaled high score prize went to Mr, and Mrs. W. T. Gibson, and Mrs. 'Charles Morrison was holding the floating prize. At the end of the game guests were served a dessert course with coffee. ——o: B & PW CLUB MEETS Mrs. J. T. Clark of Lumber Bridge is a patient at Highsmith hospital for treatment. R. H. Edge visited last week with his daughter and* son-in-law, Mri and Mrs. Harvey Yoimg and family, in, Wichita, Kansas,, Mrs. Ydtfng'^an^ Ibn, JoHiihy Iph^e, returned to Raetford with Mr. Edge for a short visit in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edge. Mr. and 'Mrs. C. P. Kinlaw at tended the annual gift show at the Municiple Auditorium in Atlanta, Ga. last week. Mas. Bill Maurer and childrelt returned to their home in Winston- Salem Monday after a vjsit in the home of .Mrs. Maurer’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. John MeKeithan. Mrs. W. B. Guiledge is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Harold Long, in Raleigh. She was accomp'anied to Raleigh Sunday by her sons, Joe and Jesse Guiledge, who re turned to Raeford the ^me day. Mrs. Guiledge expects to leave Raleigh by plane as soon as she can get reservations for Kansas City, Mo.^ to-visit her son and daughter-in-law. Mr. and ,Mrs. William Guiledge. Miss Becky Howell of Ellerbe is . visiting here this week in the home of her brother. Bill Howell. Charlie Simmons and Rip Gib-, son spent the week-end in Win- ston-Sealm. Miss Willa McFadyen spent the week-end at Boone with her sister. Miss Betty McFadyen. Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Bethune of Hamlet were guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. K. Currie Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lee and son of Aberdeen were week-end guests in the home of Mr. Lee’s parents, the Rev. and Mrs. P. O. Lee.
