MUSIC CLUB ]V®:ETS TUESDAY NIGHT The Chaminade Music clyb was delightfully entertained at the home of Mrs. Lewis Ux>church on Tuesday evening of this week. Mrs. W. B. McLauchlin and Mrs. T. N. McLauchlin served as as sociate hostesses. Mrs. W. M. Thomas, chairman, presided. The meeting was opened by the singing of the club hymn and the collect read by Mrs. A. ' K. Currie. In observance of Na tional Music week the club had .as its guest Mrs." Joe Bishop of Laurinburg, teacher of Ballet, who with five of her pupils pre sented the , following program: Primitive Dance, by the girls; Chopin Mazurka. Opera 1 bj^ Mac Mathews; Spanish Fandango by the girls; Ballet' Dance by Mrs. Bishop; Ballet Dance by the girls; A clown dance by the g^s, ac companied at the piano by Mac Mathews. These numbers were in costume and very beautifully rendered. Pupils of Mrs. Bishop’s taking part on the program were Missfs Virginia Sue Harris, Diana ' Monroe. • Imogene Bentqn, Mari lyn Stacy and Sallie Robeson. During the social hour an ice course was ^esved, after which the club held its usual choral practice. 0 CIRCLE ENJOYS FISH FRY GARDEN CLUB ENTERTAINED LITERATURE CLUB MEETS WITH , MRS. HEYWARD '' The Baeford Garden club held its May meeting in the home of Mrs. Lacy McFadyen on Tuesday evening with Mrs. Aganora Aii"- drews as cp-hostess. Beautiful roses, sweet peas and pansies from the gardens o fthe hostesses were shown in colorful arrangement Mrs. W. T. Co^ngton, chair man, presided. Much important buisness was transacted. The ex cellent program .with activities for next year’s work was submit ted by the program committee and accepted. It was voted to change the May meeting of next year ' to April and meet jointly with other departments of the Woman’s club in the* observance of National Music Week. This of course, subject to action by the executive board of the Woman’s' club. As leader of the program for the afternoon, Mrs. J. W. Mc- Phaul led a discussion on plant disease and insects. Mrs. An drews gave timely garden hints. A dessert course was very much enjoyed during the social hour. 0 COCA-COLA CLUB ENTERTAINED BY MRS. LAMONT The Literature Department of the Woman’s club held ite final meeting of the year at the home of Mrs. W. B. Heyward with Mrs. Belton Wrigh'ti Mrs. Williei> Jones and Mrs. Hubert Cameron as as sociate hostesses, on Tuesday evening. Beautiful arrangements of red and white poppies graced the tables in the living and dining rooms. Mrs. G. B. Rowland, chairman, presided over the business meet ing, during which time the various committees reported. The chair man extended a cordial invitation to open house of the public lib rary on Thursday of this week. Mrs. W. L. Howell reviewed in a most interestin| . manner Gerald Johnson’s, “By Reason of Strength,” prefacing the review' with a few biographical facts of, the arthur. Concluding the pro gram Mrs. D. B. McFadyen con ducted a quiz on famous women in literature. : n ^ MISS STEPHENS, BRIDE ELECT, HONORED IN FAYETTEVILLE GROUP FROM RAEFORD ENTERTAINS SANFORD MUSIC CLUB THERE Mrs. J. B. Thomas was hostess to Circle No. 2 of the Methodist Society of Christian Service yes terday. This took the place of the regular May meeting. The mem bers all gathered at the Thomas cottage on the pond and in this rustic setting were served lunch at 1 o’clock. A fish fry with every thing that goes with it was serv ed. During the afternoon the circle business and spiritual and business meeting yas held with Mrs. A. S. Morris, chairman, lead ing. 0—i Mr,". R. L. Murray went to Davidson Tuesday to attend a concert given by the Davidson Glee club in observance*’ of Na tional Music week. Mrs. N. B. Blue accompanied Mrs. Murray to Concord where she visited Mrs. George Bethune. Mrs. Blue also visited Miss' Bonnie Kate Blue at Queen’s college. - The coca-cola club to which eight women belong was enter tained on Thursday afternoon by Mrs. Bill Lamont at her home. Mrs. Buck McPhaul was a guest of the club. Mrs. Israel Mann was wlinner of the high score prize and also held hte floating prize at the end of the game. The hostess ser ved sandwiches and cokes after ithe game. / 0 RAEFORD GIRLS IN MAY DAY COUflT Miss Helen McKenzie returned to her work at Lancaster, S. C. Tuesday after coming to Raeford last week to attend the funeral of her father, J. W. McKenzie. . May Day festivities were held at Peace college in Raleigh Wed nesday, May 4, at 5 o’clock. Miss Dorothy Guy of Newland was crowned Queen of May. Among the members of the Queen’s court were two Raeford girls. Miss Joan Johnson and Miss Katherine Blue. “Mother Nature and Her Children” was presented in pan- tomine for the entertainment of the Queen and her court. 0 Mrs. William Harris has been quite sick at a hospital in Fayete- ville, Arkansas, for the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Harris were form er residents of Fayetteville but had to leave this climate on ac count of Mr. Harris’s health. The Sanford Music Club was entertained last Friday evening at 8 o’clock at the home of Mrs. E. B.^ Ke^ith in Sanford. At this time the Sanford club was hostess to a group from the Chaminade club of Raeford. Mrs. W. B, Mc Lauchlin of Raeford responded to the greetings extended by the chairman of the Sanford club. The group from Raeford then present ed a varied musical program wihich was most enthusiartically receiy^. Those taking part'on the program were: Mrs. W. M. Thom as, Mrs. Raymond McLean, Mrs. R. B. Lewis, Mrs. Fred Culbreth, Misses Josephine Hall and Alice Walker with Mrs. Clyde Upchurch accompanist. Following the program a social hour was very much enjoyed dur ing which time an ice course was served. 0 BARBARA WARLICK HOSTESS ON BIRTHDAY SACRED CONCERT SUNDAY NIGHT AT BAPTIST CHURCH The Chaminade Music club will present a sacred concert in ob servance of National Music week at the Raeford Baptist church, Simday night, May 8, at 8 o’clock. The High Sdbool Sextette and members of the Chaminade club will take part. The Rev, W. B. Heyward and the Rev. P. O. Lee will give the Invocation, Scrip ture readings and .the Benedict ion. This sacred concert is an an nual affair and is looked forward to with pleasure by the commun ity. Geb- hard Lanz entertained at an in formal tea Saturday afternoon honoring Miss Ollie Stephens, whose marriage to S|Sgt. Charles Joseph Augustoni, Jr. will take place on Sunday, May 8. The tea was given at the home of Mrs. Lanz on the Fort Bragg road. The honor guest was. present ed a corsage and a piece of crystal in her chosen pattern. Guests were greeted at the door by the hostesses and Miss Ste phens. The dining room table, covered with a cutwork clo'th, was deco rated with bridal arrangements of white flowers and lighted tap ers. Artistic flower arrangements were used throjjighout the living and dining rooms. The hostesses were assisted in Sreving by sisters of the bride- elect, Misses Sarah and Margue rite Stephens. Miss Marguerite Stephens presided at the punch bowl and Miss Sarah Stephens assisted in serving bridal cakes," sandwiches and nuts. , Approximately 25 guests^ from Raeford and Fayettfeville called during the afternoon. ^ —-0 SAMMY WARLICK HAS 4TH BIRTHDAY Barbara Warlick wat' hostess, to around 30 friends Monday of this week in celebration of her 11th birthday. Guests arrived t six o’clock and were served a de licious picnic supper on the lawn of Barbara’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Warlick. After sup per the party enjoyed a hay ride. 0 LOCAL WOMEN ATTEND WOODMEN CIRCLE IN CHARLOTTE LAST WEEK The Woman’s Club of Raeford is sponsoring a picture,’ “The Re turn of October,” which promises to be fine entertainment for all of the family, on May 9th and 10th, Monday and Tuesday, at the Rae ford Theater. Gore chap eroned ihe Raeford girls who at tended the nth annual convention of North Carolina Ch^terts of the National Beta club, which con vened in Raleigh from Friday till Sunday of last week. About 1.682 delegates from the States chapters at the National high school honor society attended the convention. Going with Mr. and^Mrs. Gore from Raeford -^ere: Miss Marian Lewis, Bettie Holtzclaw, AUce Sutton Matheson and Anne Gore. The Raeford party stayed at the Sir Walter and they reported a grand trip.
