BRIDGE PARTY- FOLLOWED BY LUNCHEON ==^i] Mrs. Paul Dezerne and Mrs. Benton Thomas gave a pretty morning party on Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Thomas. Guests for six tables of bridge came in at 10:30 and played until’' 1:00, when a most tempting lunch was served. Pink, blue and white as ters were effectively' used in the rooms where the tables were set up. ’ Mrs. Alvis Dickson of Chevy Chase, Maryland, came in fbr lunch, 0 COCA-COLA FOR VISITORS Mrs. Marcus Smith entertained a few friends and neighbors Sat urday afternoon with a delight fully informal coca-cola party. B. Hoyl, guest of Mrs. Tommie Upchurch. : 0 EASTERN STAR MEETS MISS McLAUCHLIN HONORED Mrs. R. L. Murray and Mrs. Walter Baker entertained on Tues day evening at the home of Mrs. Murray in lionor of Miss Josephine McLauchlin, ^ride-elect of Sep tember. When the honoree arrived, she was g.'cn a very lovely coisage v/hwh'she wore during the even ing. Punch was served by Misses Ida ard. Mattie McLauchlin from an attractively arranged table, p’aced on the side porch, before the games and during their pro gress. Three tables were placed for bridge ahd two for rook in rooms that had arrangements of late summer flowers. The hostesses gave Miss Mc Lauchlin, their honor guest, a piece of silver in the pattern she has selected. An ice course was served after the games Miss Agnes . Mae Johnson was v/iimer of the high score prize in bridge and Mrs. John K. Mc Neill received the prize in rook. ——-0 HOUSEWARMING HONORS MRS. BROWN MRS. PRITCHETT HAS 83RD BIRTHDA T he Raeford Chapter. Order of Eastern Star, met Monday Right Only routine business came up. Beginning with September the Chapter will resume its meetings twite a month. 0 , Miss Martha, Ben and Nita Gulledge spent Friday and Sat urday at ECTC, Greenville They went to attend the Carmen Ca- vallaro dance Friday evening. Miss Margie Campbell spent Tuesday, in Raeford. She was enroute to China Grove to teach , again this year from ECTC, at Greenville, where she attended summer school and receive! her BS Degree Mrs. Clarence Brown who has recently moved to a new brick home located next to the resi dence of Dr .and Mrs. Brown, was shown an attractive courtesy when Miss Jessie Bright Ferguson and Mrs. Archie Byrne entertained at a house-warming, for her last Thursday evening.’ Neighbors and a few others ,making a total of around 20 were present. ' Each person brought Mrs. Brown a gift for her new home, and the hos tesses pesented Mrs. Hilton Clark who has recently moved to that neighborhood, an atractive gift. At t he end of the evening, Mrs. Byrne and Miss Herguson ser ved refreshments consisting of sandwiches, cookies and punch. Mrs. C. M. Pritchett, who is well known and much loved in Raeford, where she spends part of her time with her daughter, Mrs. R. L. Murray, was eighty- three years old Sunday. Bobby and Mrs. Murray went to Greens boro to be with her on her birth day and with other members of the Pritchett family whp gaher- ed for a reunion. They had din ner with Mr. and Mrs. P. T. Hines, Mrs. Hines being another dau- bhter of Mrs. Pritchett. Mrs. Clyde Upchurch made the high score and won the prize in bridge. Mrs. Color Scarborough- won the prize in bingr and Miss Mayme McKeithEu;i was given a consolation prize for lov/ score. 0 MRS. HOWELLL ENTERTAINS CLUB NEIGHBORHOOD PARTY FOR MRS. CARNEY Mrs. M. F. Carney of Wilming- * ton who ,is the guest of Mrs. T. B. Lester was the honoree on Tues day afternoon when M .s Lester entertained with two tables of bridge in her honor. Guests on this occasion were Mrs. Les.er’s cose neighbors. A dessert course was served before the game. Mrs. -\lvis Dickson came in for dessert. In the game that followed Mrs. Alfred Cole made the highest score and was given a pretty prize. Mrs. John Walker was given a con- solat on gift, since sh-^ held the lowest score and Mrs. Carney^was remembered with a gift. 0 Mrs. W. L. Howell Jr., was hostess to the Wednesday after noon bridge club last week A frozen dessert was served before the game. Mrs. Herman Vernon and Mrs. Hinton McPhaul were guests other then club members. Mrs. Vernon won the visitor’s prize. Mrs. Clyde Upchurch, Jr., the club prize for high score Bin- go was played with Mrs. Hinton McPhaul the winner 0 Chaplain and Mrs. Olsen^ who have an apartment with Mrr and Mrs. N. B. Blue, have moved to the Fort Bragg area. UPCHURCH HOSTESS TUESDAY AFTERNOON On Tuesday afternoon Mrs. Tommie Upchurch gave an in formal At Hcftne in honor of her mother Mrs. Hoyl, who is her house guest. Friends and con temporaries of Mrs. Hayl, mem bers of the family and neighbors enjoyed a most delightful infor mal hour together. The home looked pretty with tastefully ar ranged flowers. Mrs. Upchurch and Mrs. Hoyl greeted the guests after which some time was spent in conversation. Those pre sent were invited into the dining room where ,the table was most attractively arranged and from which tea, sandwiches and con fections, were sei'vecl. Out of town guests present were Mrs. Hoyl, Mrs. Sholl. guest of Mrs. Lewis Upchurch and Mrs. Ross of Washington, N.
