CHAMINADE CLUB
MEETS
The Chaminade Music club
held its first meeting of the Fall
Tuesday evening. The meeting,
was opened in the Ladies’ parlor
of the Presbyterian church, with
Mrs. W, M. Thomas, chairman,
presiding. Busmess of the club
was transacted, committees read
and important announcements
m^de. Mrs. ^Nat White was elect-
d^d an affiUate member of the
club.
At the conclusion of the busi
ness meeting Mrs. Clyde Up
church presented Mrs.. William
Partridge, the former Miss Ger
trude Muelbauer of Munich Ger-
la^ny,' who gave several selections
on the accordion. MisS Alice Walk
er, director of music of the Pres
byterian church, continued the
program with an explanaition of
and selections for the organ.
After the program 'the club
members and guests were invited
across the street to Mrs, A. K.

McLauchiBn, Mrs. J. S. Poole and
Mrs. Currie, hostesses for the ev

Mrs. Israel Mann was hostess
to the .members of.her bridge club
on Wednesday afternoon of last
week. Guests other than club
members were Mrs. R. B. Lewis,
.Mrs. Alfred Cole and Mrs. J. C.
McLean. The hying room and din
ing room, where tables were
placed for playing, were attrac
tive with - arrangements of fall
flowers. At the end of several
progi'essions Mrs. Frank Tapp
was awarded high score prize for
the; members, Mrs. Cole won the
visitor’s .high and Mrs. Chandler
Roberts captured, the floating
prize.'At the end of the game a
dessert course was served.

They went up through the Valley

Tapp, who will be married in a
'ciouble wedding at the Baptist
church next month, were hon-
orees at a party given at the home
of Mrs. Robert Gatlin on Tues
day evening of this week. Mrs.
Hallie Gatlin was associate hos

The living room was attractive
with arrangements of roses and a
beautiful arrangement of milk
and wine lilies was placed at one
end of the manteL Upon arrival
guests were invited into the din
ing room where they were served
punch from an appointed table
by Mrs. Robert Gatlin. During the
j evening four tables of guests' en-
I joyed bingo with prizes awarded
to the winner of each game, af
ter which they enjoyed a bridal
contest with the prize going to
Mrs. Paul Burnette.
The honorees were presented

Ice cream and individual cakes,
decorated in green and white,
were served. '

club members. After enjoying a

rival, bridge was played at two
tables. After scores were totaled
high score prize went to Mrs.
Bill Howell. Mrs. Lester remem
bered Mrs. Christopher with an
attractive gift.

branched candelabra on each side,
and the mantel banked in .greens
with white flowers and single

spent the first of the week here
in the home of Mr. and Mrs. J.
A. Baucom. Dr. Baucom brought
them down Sunday and returned
to Goldsboro the same tlay.
Mrs. Lawrence McNeill has re
turned after spending several
days the latter part of the week
and first of this at Duke hospital
with her sister, Mrs. Peter Mc
Queen of Clinton, who recently
underwent an operation. Mrs.
McQueen’s condition is now sat
isfactory.

was a. junior maid of honor. She
wore a floor length dress of light
blue taffeta with pale pink sash
and carried a dainty nosegay of
pastel flowers.
The bride and groom entered
together and were met at the im
provised altar by the Rev. W. B.
Heyward who heard the vo'\^'s.
The words of the ceremony had
been especially arranged for this
couple and were sent in a book,
as a gift of the groom’s parents.
The bride wore a wedding gown
of lace and silk marquisette. The
hip length bodice of lace was
tight fitting and buttoned with
self buttons in the back. Sleeves
were long, ending in points, over
the hand. The skirt ended in a
conventional train. She wore a
fingertip veil of illusion attached
to a lace coi-onct and carried a
bouquet of bride’s roses and ste-
phanotis.
- After the. couple had received
congratulations all' present were i
invited into t!n.' lining room where
they were served a real Southei-'n-
wedding supper. During the sup
per cablegra.r.- rom the bride
groom's' family ii-, Australia and
Scotland were read. Those send
ing cablegrams were: the groom’s
father and moiiicr. Rev. and Mrs.
R. H. Campbell: his sister and her
husband, Mr. and Mrs. T. L. An
drew?; his aunt and uncle, Mr.
and Mrs. R. A. Brouff; and his
cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Hixon
Archibald and Miss Annie Mc-
Cubbin. After these cablegrams
were read the beautiful three
tiered wedding cake was brought
in. The bride cut the first slice
and the cake was served for des
sert with ice cream.
Mr. and Mrs. Campbell left for
a short wedding trip but will re
turn to Raeford for a few day’s
visit before leading for a Europ
ean trip. After a trip to England
and a visit to relatives in ScoT-
land, they will arrive at about
Christmas time in Sydney, Aus
tralia, where they will make their
hpme. »
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. William Munroe
McFadyen of Raeford, North
Carolina. She received her B. A.
from the Woman’s college of the
University of North Carolina, and
has done graduate work at Col
umbia University and the Univer
sity of Chicago. For several years
she was. on the faculty of the
Womari’^ college of the Univer
sity of North Carolina in the his
tory department.
The groom is a son of the Rev.
and Mrs. Ronald Henry Campbell
of Burwood, New South Wales,
Australia. He received his B. S.
from the University of Sydney in
Australia, and as been in the
United States' for the past three
years doing graduate work at
Harvard Universit3' and the Un
iversity of Chicago. He is on
, leave of absence from his po.si-
