During the evening two tables of rook were in play, after which the hostesses served refreshments. Those present were the honoree, Mrs. Lester, Mrs. H. L. Gatlin, Mrs. L. B. Brandon, Mrs. G. W. Brown, Mrs. Grady Leach, Mrs. ' H. S. McLean, Mrs. H. W. B. Whitley, and Miss Reba Roberts. 0 ANNUAL BANQUET TUESDAY NIGHT The Raeford Woman’s club is having its annual banquet Tues day evening. November 22, at 7:45, at the Baptist Church. The Raeford teachers will be guests of the club at this time. Robert Smith, Dean of Music at Flora Macdonald, will be guest speaker. 0 EDUCATIONAL DEPT. MEETING POSTPONED The meeting of the Educational Department, scheduled for Tues day November 22, has been post poned a week; that is, till the fifth Tuesday, November 29. Mrs. H. L. Gatlin, Jr., Mrs. Marion Gat lin and Mrs. Neill Senter are hos tesses for the occasion. 0 Bobby McNeill and his room- male at Carolina. Jimmy Miller of Hickory, spent the week end with Bobby’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. K. McNeill. , EASTERN STAR CHAPTER HAS VISITOR The regular meeting of the Eastern Star was held on Monday November 14 in the Masonic Hall with a good attendance. The Chapter was delighted to have as their guest Mrs. Iva Sloan of LiUington, District Deputy Grand Matron of the ninth Dis trict. Several phases of the work were exemplified and discussed with much enthusiasm. An interesting report of the District School of Instruction held in Erwin was given by the Wor thy Matron Mrs. Hazel Greene. Several other officers attended this meeting. Following the meeting, a re ception period, conducted by Miss Josephine Hall, caused much merriment and was greatly en joyed by all present. Refreshments consisting of dainty sandwiches, cookies and coffee were served from a beautifully appointed table. The hostess, Mrs. Clara Mewiierter was assisted by Mrs. Ruby Duncan, Miss Louise Blue and others. 0 — MRS. ROBERTS HOSTESS TO CLUB Mrs. Chandler Roberts was hos tess to the coca-cola bridge club on Wednesday afternoon of last week. Mrs. Robert Gatlin was the only visitor other than club mem bers. At the end of several pro gressions tallies were totaled and high score prize went to Mrs. Herbert McKeithan. Mrs. Gatlin was also presented an attractive gift. Refreshments were served af ter the game. Mrs. Roberts’ home looked lovely with arrangements of chrysanthemums. TILLMAN-WRIGHT Mr. and Mrs. Frank Tapp and daughter, Marylin, visited Mrs. Tapp’s father, Mr. Williams, in Charlotte over the week end. Mr. and Mrs. George McFadyen and family of Smithfield visited Mrs. A. B. McFadyen Sunday. H. W. EUis has returned from Richwodd, Ohio, after a visit in the home of his son. Rev. Wallace M. Ellis. Lewis Upchurch and Edwin Smith made a “flying” trip to Walkertown Tuesday on business in regard to the new Methodist church. CIRCLES TO MEET The Bernice Lee Circle of the Raeford Methodist church will meet Monday night, November 21, at 8 o’clock at the home of Mrs. Burnice Williamson and Mrs. R. A. Norris. The Omega Clegg Circle will meet at the home of Mrs. Carlton Niven at-^e same time. -0 Rev. Mr. and Mrs. Judson Len non attended the Annual Baptist State Convention in Raleigh the first three days of this week. They visited Mr. Lennon’s brother, who is also a Baptist preacher in Dur ham and went back and forth. Miss Elsie Gschwind of Wash ington, D. C. was a week end guest in the home of her aunt, Mrs. F. Wright and the late Mrs. Luola Knight Wright of Rockfish, became the bride of Joseph Harold Tillman, son of Mrs. Mary Dorr and the late Ru fus Tillman, in a candlelight cere mony marked with beauty and simplicity at the Tabernacle Bap tist church at Rockfish, Sunday, October 30. The Rev. E. B. Book er of Timfoerlake, former pastor of the bride, officiated, at the double ring ceremony. The church looked lovely with its background of pines, ivy and fern, flanked by tall vases of white gladioli and white chry santhemums. Lighted candles on the altar and piano shed a soft glow over the scene as the vows were spoken. Prior to the ceremony a pro gram of music was rendered by Mrs. P. C. English, pianist. O Per fect Love, was played during the ceremony and the traditional wed ding marches were used. The bride and groom entered the church together. Miss Wright chose for her wedding a dress of ivory white satin, fashioned with long fitted bodice, high neckline with tiny covered buttons down the front, and long sleeves end ing in a point over the forefinger. The skirt with its train, was caught back at the waist line and held in place with a large satin bow of the dress material giving the bustle effect. She wore a heart shaped headpiece of the same material trimmed with or ange blossoms and a waist length veil, and carried a white Bible topped with a bridal bouquet of white chrysanth emums and streamers. The bride is a graduate of Hoke County High School. The groom is a veteran of World War II. The couple will make their home at Rockfish. 0 Eugene Smith of ECTC, Green, ville, spent the week end with his mother, Mrs. Lucy Smith. Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Dalton and daughter, Betty, spent last week in Suffolk, Virginia, in the home of Mrs. Dalton’s sister, Mrs. D. C. HoweU. Mrs. Jewel Klouse, Mrs. Retha Ashe and Miss Katie Margaret Buoyer attended the Jimmy Dor. sey concert at Hamlet Sunday. ,Miss Audrey Brunkhurst, who was formerly Director of Music and Religious Education in hte Raeford Presbyterian church, sail ed September 13 for Belgium where she wiU study the language for several months, before pro ceeding to the Belgium Congo to take up her work as an evange listic missionary. Graham Eubank, pastor of Trinity Methodist church will offer the invocation, and the musical program will be present ed by the college glee club under the direction of Robert Smith, Dean of Music. A brief business session wiU be held after the morning' program, and all alumnae will be guests of the college at luncheon at one o’ clock. An attractive luncheon program has been planned. Col lege faculty members will be guests of the alumnae at a coffee hour in the college parlors imme diately after luncheon.' Lancaster, 57, prominent resident of Lakedale who had been affiliated with the Burling ton Mills organization for a num ber of years, died suddenly Sat urday night of a heart attack. He was bom in Hoke county, a son of the late W. S. and Elizabeth Tyson Lancaster, on October 4, 1892. He is survived by his wife, three sons, four daughters, three brothers, four sisters including Mrs. A. V. Sanders, Mrs. Mary Clark and Mrs. Tom Chappell, all of Raeford, and six grandchild- ren> , Funeral service was conducted at four o’clock Monday afternoon at Victory Methodist church at Lakedale by the Rev. M. C. Hen derson and the Rev. Walter C. Bzdl. Augustoni. who has been attending a school at Eglin Field, Cresview, Florida, arrived Friday night to spend the week end in the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Stephens. He and Mrs. Au gustoni, who spent the past sev eral weeks here Wjith her parents, left Sunday for Albany, Georgia. Alfred Cole has been a patient at the Veterans hospital in Fay etteville for the past two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Holtzclaw left last week for Cedartown, Ga. Mr. Holtzclaw returned the lat ter part of the week and Mrs. Holtzclaw remained for several days longer. Brother Of Mrs. J. A. McGoogan Dies C. Walker Hodges, 63, dredging contractor of New Bern, died in a hospital there early Tuesday morning after suffering a heart attack on Monday. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at three-thirty o’clock from his residence, with the Rev. F. Hubert Morris,* pastor of the First Presbyterian church, offi ciating. Burial was in the New Bern Memorial cemetery. He is survived by his widow, one daughter, two sons, four grandchildren, two sisters, includ ing Mrs. J. A. McGoogan of Rae ford, and two brothers. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Williams and son were week end guests of Sgt. and Mrs. Robert Staley at Honeycutt. Eugene Carter underwent a tonsilectomy at Pittman hospital last Friday. He returned home Saturday and is reported to be recuperating nicely. Mrs. Mary Avent of Sanford arrived , last Thursday to spend several weeks with her daughter, Mrs. Harvey Cole.
