Frank Koonce of Lakeland, Fla. Is visiting his children in the community this week. Mrs. Roland Smith, nee Miss Willie Ray, and son, Henry of Danville, Virginia, spent most of last week with her mother, Mrs. A. H. Ray, who was ill. Mrs. Ray is much improved this week. Mr. and Mrs. M. S. Gibson and sister, Mrs. C. W. Ridge and Mr. and Mrs. Syd Sumner visited Mr. and Mrs. Gibson Manning at Er win Sunday. They tell'us that beavers are becoming plentiWl in this county. In fact we had the pleasure of seeing soi|e of their dams recent ly in a place where once there had been a mill dam. For several yards in two- places the beavers had filled in where the mill dam had washed out, and the wonder ful thing about it is that the water goes through and spills over, out the beaver’s dams do not break. This was probably the site of an old grist mill and we were re minded of the old_saying, quoting the late uncle Mac McFadyen, “It was a dam by a mill site, but not a mill by a dam site.” Wayside News By Mrs. Joe E. McCall, since he entered the service, plan to stay on with them until school closes, as their eldest daughter, Frances, is in school here. Mr. and Mrs. Jessie Brock have the sympathy of all.their friends at Rockfish in their recent trouble Mrs. Brock, had not Recovered from the burns inflicted when her colthing accidentally caught fire a few weeks ago, when her hus band was ih an auto'mobile wreck last Thursday near Red Springs.
