(Matthew 18:M.) To her grandmother’s question as to the number present in the Sunday school clciss one day, a little girl replied, “Counting God, there were fifteen of us.” Yes, of course, God, the Holy Spirit, was there! The child had merely accepted God’s promised presence. Has not God promised to be with us always? He has specifically mentioned that He would be present in gatherings held in His name. Jesus promised, “Lo, I am with you always.” K national govern ments and international organiza tions would always coimt God in their membership, how carefully would each word be chosen, each far-reaching decision be consid ered. If we as individuals, were consicious of God’s friendly com panionship in our homes, His in terest in our work and recreation, what a wonderful change it would make in our personal lives and re lationships. Howbeit ^en he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth. (John 16:13.) Not many centuries ago men were afraid to embark far upon the unknown oceans, largely be cause of their difficulty in deter mining direction. But when’ the compass came into use, it was not long before men sailed to all parts of the world. In life’s voyage in which tomor row’s course is uncertain, God has provided a means whereby men may be correctly guided. Yet com paratively few appear to avail themselves of this wonderful pri vilege. Christ foretold that the Holy Spirit would be sent to guide, to teach, to comfort, to reveaL However, this- promise finds ful fillment in ^those only who love Him and keep His commandments. Some people rely upon cons cience for moral guidance. The conscience is made more sensitive when the Holy Spirit pperates through it. Just as the pilot guides the ship into the unknown harbor, so will Jesus in the person of the Holy Spirit guide His followers in all affairs of life, providing they live in accordance with His will. PRATER O God, our heavenly Father, we thank Thee for the gift of the Holy Spirit. We pray that we may live in such close contact with Him that we faithfully reveal Jesus to a world where our Saviour’s teach ings are unpopular. In His name. Amen. An hour once seemed “a real long time.'” That was when you were very young. Today when you “spend” an hour either profitably or wastefully you are parting with only a tiny frac tion of your life. But, then, you were investing or squandering a large portion of your most important asset. On this obvious truth rests the vital importance of childhood religious training. Faith' and moral char acter grow most rapidly in the formative early years. And the beliefs and habits acquired in those “big” hours of our childhood are not easily crowded out by the multiplicity of worldly concerns which over flow our later days and years. Every hour you devote, to the religious training of your child, going to Church with him, reading Bible stories to him, sending him to Vacation Church School, helping him to live and work and play by the best code, will strengthen your own character—and mo/d his I CHDBCH FOR JUJ. .
