The Rockfish school board had a meeting Tuesday afternoon at 'fte home of the chairman and elected Ralph Street of Buladean, N, C. as principal, replacing T. C. Jones who had announced his resignation early in March. Mr. Street conics hyhly recom mended and made .1 excellent impnjssion on all who. met him. He is a brother of J.ir.ics W. Phiilip.s, V.f-ad of the vo cational agricuPure department at Hofcc High, is attending the state j conference of agricultural teach-1 ers being held at Carolina Beach this week. The Timberland school also celebrated its last closing exercises on Thursday. These began right after noon with an exhibit of school work, and an exercise put on by the children of the lower grades. In the late afternoon a picnic supper was served and that night the children of the grammar grades gave an entertainment. Tliis school will be consolidated with. Upchurch next fall. Last Wednesday evening the' Rockfish School put on its Gram mar Grade program. This con sisted of a pljy “An Apple for the Teacher"; music by Mrs. P. C. English; tire salutatory by Eliza beth Am: Overton; poem by Betty j Lee; song by the grades; poe.Ti by Howard Hobson and the valedic tory by Betty Scarboro. The prin cipal and superintendent then pre sented the awards. Just as the exercises w'ere end ing Mrs. English asked for a word. She then, on behalf of the pupils and parents, expressed their 'dianks and appreciation for work done at Rockfish to Principal Jones and Mrs. B. B. Cole of the faculty, who had handed in her resignation. Mrs. English praised the work of these two and voiced tile regret of the parents at their leaving. To emphasize all she had been saying, before taking her seat, Mrs. English presented, on brfialf of those she spoke for, substantial gifts to both of these resigned teachers and wished them Godspeed in their new fields of labor! Shrciy Grove had its closing ox- oi ''i.sc.‘: Thursday night. The chil dren put on exercises that were most entertaining and instructive. A crowded house responded heairt- ’’>■ to them. The pupils and teach ers showed that they had worked hard by the grade of the enter tainment given. The superintend ent made a short talk and inform ed the audience that in all prob- abilit3' this school would be con tinued for several years. This seemed to meet the approval of the people. Most of the teachers and princi pals have gone for the summer. However, J. W. Turlington, book- room manager, is still here check ing books and winding up his work for the year. Both Princi pals Gibson and Page are still on tiie job and may be contacted at the schools if necessary. Both dementary supervisors are also here and busj' vunding up , the work of the 3’e?r and beginning to get ready for next year. Rebels Mebe Progress In Raising Money The Raeford Rebels, determined to give Raeford a winning ball team and also equip the park, an nounced this week that they had collected a total of S172.00 of their goal of i>!,500.00 for rebuilding pur poses. They said that they hoped to have the remainder of the sum raised by the middle of next week. As soon as the money is re ceived they plan to start imme- diatelj' replacing the light bulbs and reflectors now out of order.
