THE WORLD'S MOST WIDELY USED DEVOTIOHAL GUIDE
Humble yourselves . . . under
the miffhty hand of God, tht he
may ex«lt you in due time: cast
ing all your care upon him; for
he careth for you. (I Peter 5:6,7).
Read n Corinthians 8:1-7.
Usually each day oiu: cares are
many: the cares of home and chil
dren, of the church, the commun
ity, the nation, the hard interna
tional conditions; the financial
problems, such as, debts, the in
ability to make both ends meet;
poor health, old age, and the daily
uncertainty of life.
We need ont bear these alone.
We can bring them all to the great
Burden-Bearer, Christ y Himself!
Has He not said to us, “Come unto
me, all ye that labour and are
heavy laden, and I will give you
rest”?
One burden, however, we often
keepr-self. Self is the cause of
most of our cares. Self must be
laid down, for the promise is;
“He. careth for you.” How do we
do this? Much like a little child.
who is tired from carrying sdme-
thhig which has been above his
strength. He simply drops it and
nestles in his loving mother’s
arms. If thus we bring ourselves
to Christ, we rest in His love and
know the joy and happiness of
contentment and peace.
PRAYER
Heavenly Fateher, we come to
Thee with all our cares and bur
dens and self. We seek of Thee
rest and strength. Grant ns the
comfort and joy of Thy fatherly
love. In Jesus’ name we ask it.
Amen.

asked this question earlier, be
cause surveys indicate many Tar
Heels are not choosing the right
wheat variety to plant for their
next crop.
As a result, many growers will
harvest inferior yields and poor
quality wheat next spring.
In the Piedmont, Atlas 50, Atlas
66, and Coker 47-27 are the best
varieties. In the 1952 Official
Variety Tests conducted by the
N. C. Crop Improvement Associa
tion on Piedmont farms, these
varieties yielded as follows: Atlas
50, 48.1 bushels pet-acre; Atlas 66,
47 bushels; Coker 47-27, 49 bu
shels. Varieties not recommended
for the Pieldmont — Thome,
Bearded, Redhart, and Leap —
yielded five to 10 bushels less(
than the recommended varieties.
Another factor in choosing a
wheat variety is the premium
paid for the crop at harvest time.
Markets at Statesville and Kern-
ersville have been established to
buy milling wheat at premium
prices. At present Atlas 50 and
Atlas 66 are receiving premiums
of 25 cents per bushel over other
varieties, a fact that further sug
gests the need for growers to
choose their variety carefully and
wisely.
For growers who are unable to
obtain certified seed of recom
mended wheat varieties, a seed ex
change is being operated as a
public service in Statesville and
Kemersville where farmers can
obtain certified seed of Atlas
wheat now in exchange for .com
bine-run wheat to be returned
at 1953 harvest time.

A Lesson in Building
This youngster is learning
the rudiments of one of the
oldest and most useful of the human arts—^the art of
building. It was a great day in the life of primitive man
when he learned to put sticks and stones together and
build things.
From the erode structures of humanity’s infancy,
the art of building has progressed to its present amazing
proportions. Today we have beautiful residences, im
posing churches, sprawling factories, tall skyscrapers
and far-flung bridges.
Life itself is a bnilding process which begins in in
fancy and runs throughout our days. All the knowledge
we acquire, all our experi
ences, habits, thoughts,
ideals, and emotions are
laid block on block to
form the pattern of our
character.
And the strength of
the life we build is mea
sured in terms of faith—
faith in God and in good.
With this faith man can
bind together the elements of
his life in an enduring struc
ture. The Church and the
Bible are the best guides in
the building of a life.
