The Arabia Club did not meet on account of the funeral of Mrs. Luther Ellis. The subject for dis cussion at the club meetings was "Today's Fabrics." Afte- review ing some of the characteristics of the vegetable fibers ..i.Uin tnd linen and the animal fibers wool and silk ,the properties of the new man made fabrics were then discuss ed. A training school for clothfng leaders who will give the demon stration at April club meetings was held on the afternoon of March 31. The subject of the de monstratiun was "Achieving Dis tinction in Dress". Fourteen wo men attended the meeting. A special interest meeting on "Corsage Making" was given on the afternoon of March 13. 45 people were present. Mrs. John Bilker of the Liltle River club gave a demonstration on making flowers and corsages from old nylon hose, and the Home Agent discussed making corsages from other flowers and made several corsages in the demonstration. The essentials for making cor sages are scissors, floratape, wire in at least two guages fine and coarse, flowers, foliage, and rib bon. Other materials that may be used are chenille stems, ma line, corsage pins paper or cel lophane collars, etc. The women were shown how to wire flow ers, wrap stems with floratape, assembling them in a corsage, and how to make a ribbon bow using twisted wire around it and then twisting this same wire around the corsage. Corsages were made from carnations, camellias, chrys anthemums, violets, gladiolas, and daffodils. Lucky number were drawn and the corsages were presentcds to the women at the conclusion of the meeting. Samples of corsage materials which had been ordered for the demonstration were also distrib uted. The Farm and Home Agents held a meeting at the Shady Grove Negro School where 38 adults and children were pre sent. The basic seven food chart, gardens housing, and sanitation were among the things empha sized at this meeting. The five4-H Clubs met with 136 girls attending the meetings. The demonstration at the four junior clubs was on the use of the sewing machine, and the se- I nior club girls heard a discus sion on new fabrics. The county biscuit making con test was held on Saturday morn ing, March 14. Judy Almond, of the Ashmont 4-H Club, was first place winner and received $10.00. Carol Everleigh of the Hoke High School Club received $5.00 as second place winner and Bobby Jean Culbreth of the Rockfish Club received the third prize of $1.00 A mobilization committee meet ing was attended in March. Mr. W. C. Warrick, Extension Housing Specialist from State College, Raleigh, spent the morn ing of March 18 in the Home Agent's office. Mr. Warrick came to the county especially to con fer with Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Lytic of Antioch regarding the con struction of a new brick home. Mr. and Mis. D. R. John, of the Antioch community, receiv ed 25 Carolina dewberry plants which they planted for demon stration purposes in March. The Johns were given planting and cultural instructions and the Agent's will keep in touch with them in regard to yield, etc. 0 A N. C.
