McDonald, with Mrs. J. H. Blue and Mrs. W. W. Roberts serving as joint hostesses. ' After a brief business session the program for the evening was presented by Mrs. J. W. McPhaul, Mrs. W. J. Coaies and Mrs. D. B. MEETS The Fine Arts Department of the Raeford Woman's Club met Tuesday night, April 7th in the home of Mrs. Robert Shuord with Mrs. Carlton Niven, co-hostess. Mrs. Sam Hiser, chairman con ducted a short business meeting. Mrs. Furman Clark presented Virginia McFadyen, sixth grade student and Jeffrey Hart, eighth grade student their awards for the state poster contest on Forest Conservation which the Fine Arts Department has been sponsoring in the local schools. Mrs. McNair Smith gave the group a very informative report on current events in arts and crafts. A very timely discussion on flower arrangements was conduct ed by Mrs. Paul Dezerne. After the meeting refreshments were served to the seventeen members, three honor guests, Virginia McFadyen, Jeffrey Hart and Mrs. Dezerne, and visitor, Mrs. Neil McFadyen who were present. Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Harris had as their week-end guests Mr. and Mrs. Mclver Featherstone and Susan and Jerry Stanfield and Jerry, Jr., all of Roxboro. Susan Featherstone remained for a longer visit. If 1 MRS. W. T. GIBSON HOSTESS TO CLUB Mrs. W. T. Gibson entertained her bridge club on Wednesday afternoon of last week at her home on North Main Street. Club members and two visitors, Mrs. Carlton Niven and Mrs. Israel Mann, made up two tables. The hostess served a dessert and cof fee before the bridge game. High scor for club members was made by Mrs. Paul Dickson and Mrs. Mann made the high score for the visitors. Both were given attrac tive prizes. MISS ELLEN CURRIE ENTERTAINS CLUB Miss Ellen Currie was hostess to her bridge club on Thursday evening of last week. Two tables were made up of club members and two visitors, Mrs. Ray Griffin and Mrs. Ken McNeill. The club prizes went to Mrs. Jack Morris for making high and to Mrs. Harry Harrison for low. Mrs. Ken McNeill received the visitor's prize. The hostess served a dessert course and coffee at the end of the evening. 0 TURNPOINT HDC MEETS Mrs. Clarence Webb was hos tess to the Turnpoint Home Dem onstration Club last Thursday evening. Eleven members of the club were present for the meeting. An interesting demonstration on "Achieving Distinction in Dress" was presented by Mrs. J. A. Webb Sr. Following the business portion of the meeting delicious refresh ments of sandwiches, potato chips, and Cokes were enjoyed. Mrs. Julian Johnson and Miss Agnes Mae Johnson returned Monday from a trip to Williams burg, Va. Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Cameron had as their guest on Easter Mrs. Cameron's brother, Torn Speed of Oxford. Mr. and Mrs. Chalmers Davis and Miss Donnie Lytic spent the week-end in Columbia, S. C, with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Lytle have received word that their son, G. C. Jr., U. S. N., has arrived in Japan. Mrs. Rowland Covington and her daughter, Mrs. Hurd Brad ford of Huntersvillc, and Mrs. Adelyne Johnson spent Tuesday in Sanford with Mrs. Johnson's daughter Mrs. William Wagoner. Mrs. J. B. Mclntyre, who sail ed from San Francisco the lust week in March is expected to ar rive in Japan on Saturday for a visit with her daughter and fam ily, Major and Mrs. Milo Postel and Patty Ann. Mr. and Mrs. Roland Covington spent Sunday in Hamlet with Mrs. Covington's mother, Mrs. J. R. Gordon. Mr. and Mrs. Hurd Bradford and Elizabeth of Hunt ersville were also guests of Mrs. Gordon. Mrs. Bradford and Eliza beth came to Raeford with the i Covingtons to spend this week. in Old Masonic Hall. COTHRAN - DUNCAN In a candlelight, double ring ceremony conducted by the Rev. Judson Lennon, Miss Dorene Duncan became the bride of Tif fany ' Cothran, in the Raeford Baptist church as five p. m. Sun day March Sth. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Duncan of Raeford. Mr. Cothran is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L. R, Cothran of Ashley Heights. Wedding music was presented by Miss Jessie Bright Ferguson, organist and Robert Gatlin, vo calist, who sang, "O Promise Me" and "Because" prior to the cere mony and "Seal Us" as the bene diction. The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of chantilly lace and nylon net fashioned with a fitted bod ice and bouffant skirt of lace and tiered nylon net. Her finger tip veil of French illusion was at tached to a cap of lace. She car ried a cascade bouquet of bride's roses and lillics of the valley, centered with a white orchid. Miss Treva Duncan, sister of the bride, was maid of honor and Mr. Cothran, father of the bride groom, was best man. The maid of honor wore a strapless florr-length dress of light blue nylon net with match ing stole. She carried a nosegay of pink roses and wedgewood dutch iris with pink ribbon streamers and wore a matching bandeau of flowers in her hair. Ushers were James Potter, cousin of the bride. Earl Hen drix and Floyd Price of Colum bia, S. C, brother-in-law of the groom. The mother of the bride wore a navy crepe dress with pink accessories and a corsage of pink carnations. The bridegroom's mo ther wore a navy dress with navy accessories and a corsage of white carnations. Mrs. Cothran was graduated from Hoke County High School and is employed by the Bank of Raeford. Mr. Cothran graduated from Hoke County High School and is in the U. S. Navy, now station ed at San Diego, California. Guests were received in the vestibule of the church immedi ately following the ceremony. For traveling South, the bride wore an ice blue suit with black accessories and the orchid from her wedding bouquet. Cake Cutting Mrs. T. D. Potter entertained the Cothran-Duncan wedding party and out-of-town guests with a cake cutting at the home of Mrs. Duncan on Saturday ev ening after the rehearsal at the Raeford Baptist Church. The dining room table, which was covered with an imported lace and linen cloth, was cen tered with a beautiful arrange ment of white dutch iris and pink snapdragons, flanked by silver candelabra holding pink lapers. The three-tiered wedding cake was placed at one end of the table and the punch bowl at the other. Sparks' sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Fulk Tuesday and Wednesday. Sgt. Sparks leaves for Europe in May and his family will remain in Fayetteville until they can join him. Capt. and Mrs. R. C.
