Hill Baptist Church Saturday MISS ANNE GORE, BRIDE ELECT, IS SHOWN MANY COURTESIES A number of parties, both last week and this week, have been given in honor of Miss Anne Gore, bride-elect of June 27th. On Wednesday afternoon of last week, Mrs. Israel Mann and Mrs. K. A. McDonald gave a des sert bridge at the Mann home at 3:00 o'clock. Beautiful roses and gladioli were used in the living room and dining room. Dainty arrangements of pink rosebuds and baby's breath centered each of the four tables. A corsage of red roses was presented to Miss Gore. A frozen dessert, cake and nuts were served before the group played bridge. Miss Agnes Mae Johnson won the high score prize. Mrs. McDonald and Mrs. Mann presented their guest of honor gifts of linen and china. Miscellaneous Shower Misses Marian Lewis, Florence Cameron and Betty Upchurch en tertained Miss Anne Gore, popu lar bride-elect of this month, with an informal party on Fri day morning at 10:30 o'clock at the home of Miss Lewis. An arrangement of all white flowers centered the dining room table, which was covered with a linen and lace cloth. Guests were invited into the dining room where they were served a varie ty of dainty sandwiches, cookies and Cokes. The hostesses brought in a beautifully decorated box, laden with gifts and placed it in front of Miss Gore. She expressed her thanks for each one. Bridge Party Saturday On Saturday evening at 8:00 o'clock Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Aus tin and Mr. and Mrs. Neil Senter gave a bridge party in honor of Miss Anne Gore and Charles Hos tetler who are to be married this month. Miss Gore was presented an chid corsage. Four tables were placed in the living and dining rooms which were attractively decorated with all white flowers. Lime punch was served during the bridge ENGAGED X V BETTY SUE McGUGAN Mr. and Mrs. L. M. McGugan of Red Springs announce the en gagement of their daughter, Bet ty Sue, to Roland Eugene Currie, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Currie of Raeford. The wedding will take place July 12. game from a crystal bowl which was encircled with gardenias and smilax. High score prize for the men was won by Paul Dickson and Mrs. Paul Dickson received the women's high score prize. Mrs. Austin and Mrs. Senter served bridal ice cream, cakes and mints. The honor couple received gifts of china. Coffee Hour Saturday Mrs. C. R. Suddreth and Miss Libby Suddreth entertained Miss Anne Gore, bride-elect of next Saturday, at a coffee hour on Tuesday evening. Twenty friends of the honoree were invited for 7:30 o'clock and enjoyed an hour of conversation, after which they were invited into the dining room for refresh ments. Assorted sandwiches, chil led shrimp and a frozen mint des sert were served with iced cof fee. Miss Gore received a gift of crystal in her pattern. Morning Party Wednesday Mrs. Marion Gatlin and Mrs. H. L. Gatlin, Jr., honored Miss Anne Gore with a lovely party MRS. T. B. LESTER IS HOSTESS TO HER CLUB Mrs. T. B. Lester was hostess to her bridge club on Wednesday afternoon of last week at her humc on Donaldson Avenue. She served a frozen dessert when the guests arrived. All club members made lip two tables of bridge. MISS RUBY CLARK FETED Mrs. Jean Johnson and Mrs. Joyce Hawlcy of Fayetteville en tertained with a party on Sat urday afternoon in honor of Miss Ruby Clark, who will be mar ried on Sunday. On arrival Miss Clark was presented a corsage of pink carnations. The hostesses gift to Miss Clark was crystal in her chosen pattern. Mrs. L. B. Poole and children of Belmont are spending some time with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Alexander. Qther members of the family home for the week end were Mr. and Mrs. William Alexander and Joe of Chapel Hill, Bobby of Raleigh and A3c Thomas Alexander of Andrews AFB, Washington, D. C. Mrs. W. L. Poole, her sister, Mrs. Jo Parker and Miss Louise Blue are leaving tomorrow to spend the week-end at Caesar's Head in the mountains of South Carolina. I j v. f . About eighteen friends of the bride-elect and her mother were present. Miss Gore was giv en a corsage of gardenias. The living room was beauti fully decorated with summer flowers in pastel shades and all white flowers were used on the dining room table, which was covered with a white cutwork cloth. After several rounds of bingo, guests were invited to the din ing room where Mrs. Hallie Gat lin poured lime punch and the hostesses served party cakes, as sorted dainty sandwiches, cookies and nuts. Johnson, pas tor of the Spring Hill Baptist church, officiated at the double ring ceremony. Prior to the ceremony, a pro gram of niptial music was pre sented by Miss Dorothy Brigman of Rowland, soloist, and J. J. Pence of Wagram, organist. Miss Brigman sang "The Sweetest Story Ever Told" and "All For You" by Brown and "A Wedding Benediction" by Lovelace. "To a Wild Rose" was softly played during the ceremony. The traditional wedding mar ches were used. The vows were spoken before an altar arranged with white ma jestic daisies, Southern smilax and other greenery. Candles burned in seven branched candelabra. Special pews were marked with greenery and white satin bows. The bride, given in marriage by her brother, Earl Robert Coxe, Jr., wore a gown of white Chan tilly lace over satin fashioned with bateau neckline, molded basque, and long pointed sleeves. The bouffant overskirt of lace, worn over hoops, ended in points in the front and back and was outlined with satin petals. The underskirt of nylon tulle over satin ended in a chapel length train. Her fingertip veil of ny lon was caught to a cap of match ing Chantilly lace. She carried a showered Colonial arm bouquet of orchids. Mrs. E. R. Coxe, mother of the bride, wore an aqua crepe dress with matching accessories and an orchid. Mrs. L. C. Currie, mother of the groom, wore a grey crepe dress with matching accessories and an orchid. George Allen Leach of Nor folk was his brother's best man. Ushers were Dr. George Bullock of New Bern, Malcolm Dobbins j of Winston-Salem, Jimmy Coxe of Wagram, brother of the bride, and Henry T. Thornton, Jr., of Newport News, Virginia. Miss Mildred Ardella Coxe was her sister's maid of honor. The matron of honor was Mrs. George Bullock of New Bern, also a sis ter of the bride. They wore pale green taffeta and nylon net floor length strapless dresses fashion ed with moulded bodice, pointed waists and bouffant skirts worn over hoops and crinoline, iney wore matching headplces and carried Colonial bouqets of mix ed summer flowers. Bridesmaids were Miss Anna- belle Whitehurst of Elizabeth City and Miss Sarah Caudle of Aberdeen. They wore dresses identical to those of the honor attendants and .carried summer flowers arranged in Colonial bou quets. Honorary bridesmaids Included Mrs. 'Douglas Clark and Mrs. Mat tie Lassiter Elliot of Wagram, Miss Charlotte Cooper and Miss Melissa Matthews of Laurinburg, Mrs. Sam Hendrix of Raeford, Miss Anne McGugan and Miss Virginia Corbett of Fayetteville, Leach is a graduate of Hoke Coun ty High school in Raeford. He is now serving with the United States Navy in Norfolk, Virginia. For traveling, the bride wore an original two-piece dress of light blue linen, trimmed in a darker shade of velveteen. She wore matching accessories and an orchid lifted from her wedding bouquet. After a wedding trip North, the couple will make their home in Norfolk, Virginia. 0 CAKE CUTTING FRIDAY MISS McDOUGALD IS HONORED AT PARTIES Miss Laura McDougald was honored at a dinner party in Clin ton at the home of Mrs. R. A. Mc Cullen. The tabic was centered with an arrangement of white flowers. Guests present were the present and past officers of the Home Demonstration County Council which Miss McDouguld had woiked with since she be g;;n work in Sampson County as Assistant Home Agent. These in cluded Mrs. Allen Westbrook, Mrs. B. C. Clifton, Mrs. M. M. TioublefieUl, Mrs. Claxton Pate, Mrs. James Turlington, Mrs. W. I. McLamb, Mrs. Marshall Gil bert, and Mrs. Wilbert ilobbs. Others present were Mrs. Sebron Royal, Mrs. Robert Brueo Price, ,,r.d Mrs. R. A. McCullen. Each guest presented the hono ree with a gift. Miss McDougald was presented a corsage and a gift of silver by the hostess. Coca-Cola Party Miss Laura McDouguld was honoree at a Coca-Cola party and surprise shower last Satur day at the home of Mrs. James P. Turlington of SalemburH. Host esses for the occasion were Mrs. C. V. Howard, Mrs. H. L. Gale, and Mrs. Turlington. The .house was decorated with beautiful arrangements of spring flowers. Miss McDougald was pre sented a bridal corsage and many useful gifts. i Luncheon Monday Miss Ava Ray Owen entertain ed at a luncheon on Monday at one o'clock in the Camelia Room, Prince Charles Hotel, Fayette ville, in honor of her cousin, Miss Kitty Owen. Sharing honors with the honoree were three other brides-elect: Miss Laura Mc Dougald, Miss Joyce Royal, and Miss Nesbeth Bertschi. The luncheon table was cover ed with a white linen cloth and centered with a bride-doll whose dress was made of pink and white flowers. She held a mina- ture bride's bouqet of Stephan otis and lillies of the valley. All the places were marked with curds and tiny pink and white nosegays, except the places for the four brides-eleet, which wero marked with minature bridal bouqets of white roses, stephan otis and lillies-of-the-valley. After a three-course luncheon, the hostess presented the brides elect with gifts of china. Party Monday Night Miss Laura McDougald wa'i honored at a lovely party given on Monday niiiht by Mrs. Rob ert Spears and Miss Kathryn Chason at the home of Mis. Spears in Fayetteville. Summer flowers decorated tho living and dining rooms. The dining table was covered with a lace cloth centered with an ar rangement of white flowers. Those attending the party from Raeford were: Mesdamos D. A. McDougald, J. W. Lovette, John Lentz, .Thomas Wood, Wilton Wood, Douglas Monroe, Martin Webb and Miss Mary Peele. Miss McDougald was presented many beautiful gifts. The host esses' gifts to her were a bti lai corsage and a gift of china. Mrs. T. D. Potter has return ed to her home on South Main Street after an enjoyable visit with her son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose H. Seate of Ded ham, Massachusetts, Mrs. Potter flew to Boston to attend the grad uation of her granddaughter, Mary Lee Seate from Dedham High School. During her stay in the' North, Mrs. Potter travelled through New Hampshire and Maine and visited friends at Cape Elizabeth, Maine. Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Cole, Jr., of Wilmington, announce the birth of a daughter, Linda Marie, on May 31st at James Walker Memorial hospital. Mrs. Cole is the former Miss Beatrice Haire of Raeford. Mrs. Bill Cox and son, Billy, of Gastonia are spending three weeks with Mrs. Cox's parents. Mr. and Mrs. R. O. Cothran. Following the Leach-Coxe wed ding rehearsal on Friday evening, Mrs. Earl L. Coxe, mother of the bride, entertained with a cake cutting at her home near Wa gram for the wedding party and out-of-town guests. The lovely four-tiered wedding cake was placed on one end of the table which was covered with a linen cutwork cloth and cen tered with an arrangement of white mums and fern, flanked by silver candelabra. After the first slice of cake was cut by the bride and groom, it was served by the bride's aunt, Mrs. D. H. Sutton of Raleigh.
