PAGE TWO THE NEWS-JOURNAL THURSDAY, JANUARY 13, 1955 Weekly Report On Activities Around Antioch By Miss Fronde Kennedy With the new year the various organizations around which most Antioch activities center have swung into renewed action. The Young People of Antioch Presbyterian Church engaged in candle-lighting installation ser vice tor their new officers on last Sunday evening. The Rev. Gower Crosswell installed Billy Morrow as president, Mitchell Collins as vice-president, Thomas Glisson as secretary-treasurer, and Phy llis Bostic as program director. Mr. and Mrs. Radford Collins are adult advisers of the group, suc ceeding Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Hod gin. The outgoing officers are Bobby Clark, diaries Conoly, and Frances McDorald. Among plans for the new year is one to ob serve the last Sunday in January as "Youth Sunday" by taking part in the morning church serv ice on that day. The Women of the Church held their January meeting in the Ed ucational Building on Monday evening, and in spite of the rain had an excellent attendance. The program was enjoyed by all, hav ing as its theme "Anxious Mom ents". It was presented by Mrs. D. W. Gillis, and participants in cluded Mrs. J. M. Andrews, Mrs. Cecil McPhaul, and Mrs. Gillis. Mrs. Lamon Bruner continues as president of the organization and Miss Sarah McKenzie as Sec retary. Newly installed officers included Mrs. Sherwood Baldwin as vice-president, Miss Jean Hod gin as treasurer, and Mrs. Sarah McDonald as historian. Chairmen of standing committees are Mrs. Gower Crosswell, Spiritual Growth; World Mission, Mrs. Sarah Margaret McNeill; Stew n ardship, Mrs. Jim McDonald; An nuities and Relief, Mrs. Bill Mc Millan; Christian Education. Mrs. Brown McDiarmid; Church Ex tension, Mrs. J. M. Andrews; Gen eral Fund, Mrs. Doug McPhaul. Circle chairmen are Mrs. Archie Howard, Mrs. D. W. Gillis, Miss Willa McLauchlin, Mrs. W. B. Glisson, Mrs. Eddie Batchelor, and Mrs. Harry Daniel. Scoutmaster David Gibson has every reason to be proud of the Antioch Troop of Boy Scouts. At their first meeting of the year they had as visitors members of the Church's Scout Committee: Walter Gibson, Cliff Conoly and W. C. Hods in. Four of the Scouts passed successfully tests for ad vancement. They will be present ed at the next Court of Honor as follows: Walter Curtis McNa minis. to first class; David Mc Donald, John and Ray McQueen, to second class. The Troop has already on hand 1,000 pines to be set out as their next project. Antioch Church has been de signated as a station on the route of the Hoke County Library Book mobile. It will stop here at ap proximately three o'clock on the first and third Fridays. This is a jireatly appreciated service. Friends of the family of Mrs. Joe Campbell are much concern ed to learn that she is critically ill in the hosi ital in Laurinburg. Mrs. G. I. Kbrpp is visiting relatives in T.urr.borton, where her sister. Miss Sallie King, is critically iil in the hospital. Miss Willa McLauchlin is un der treatment for bursitis in Fay cttcville. Mrs. J.
