Wllllford County Farm Agent Boll weevil counts are still run ning very low through out Hoke County. Only in very isolated in stances has the count run as high as 10. In checking for boll weevils, I have found that a lot of people are blaming thrip damage and other types of damage on boll weevils. There has been consid erably more damage thus far from thrips than from any other insects. The population of lady bugs and other beneficial insects is running fairly high. The boll worm seems to have disappeared temporarily. This is a normal condition and they will probably reappear In a week or two. Every farm is an individual problem and each farmer should make his own boll weevil counts. At present, with the percentage of punctured squares being as low as it is and with the beneficial insects being fairly prevalent, I would not recommend dusting until you have cheeked your own fields and found 10 of your squares punctured. Blueberries are grown commer cially on 10,000 acres. .ojXTJTiTJTJxrijmjTJiJiJ Irsh potatoes that are exposed to light for a period of time turn green and are commonly known as "greenheads". If you will dig your pota toes in the morning, air dry them in the shade for one day, and then store them in a screened storage place before the moths get a chance to lay their eggs, your po tatoes should last a lot longer.
