BRIDGE CLUB GARDEN CLUB HAS ELOWER WORKSHOP Mrs. Robert Gatlin entertained the Wednesday Afternoon Bridge Club last week. Mrs. T. C. Scar borough, Mrs. Chandler Roberts and Mrs. W. L. Lancaster were visitors to the club. ' Refreshments were served af ter the bridge game. Mrs. Neil Scnter won the club prize and Mrs. Lancaster receiv ed the visitor’s prize. — 0 SHELLS HOSTS TO COUPLES BRIDGE CLUB The Raeford Garden Club spemered a flower arrugement werkakop on 'Tuesday afternoon from two until five o'clock in the Methodiot Church Fellowship room. The workshop was open to the public. Mrs. J. S. John son, Sr., Mrs. C. E. Upchurch and Mrs. T. D. Potter were hos tesses. The club meeting was opened with the reading of the Club Col lect Mrs. Sam Homewood, chairman, presided during the business session. The workshop was conducted by Mrs. Roy Homewood of Chap el Hill. Mrs. Homewood is a past president of the State Federation of Garden Clubs, and is a na tionally accredited flower show judge. She pointed out that the basic purpose of flower arrang ing is not for show purposes, but to enhance the beauty and enjoy ment of the home. Mrs. Home- wood also discussed design, pro portion, balance, and condition ing. At the conclusion of the workshop Mrs. Homewood offer ed constructive criticism of all the arrangements made. The hostesses served refresh ments, and the club presented their guest speaker with a gift. 0 MRS. UPCHURCH IS HOSTESS TO LUNCHEON BRIDGE CLUB AMERICAN HOME DEPARTMENT MEETS WITH MRS. McDUFFIE The American Home Depart ment of the Raeford Woman's Club met Tuesday night at the home of Mrs. E. L. McDuffie. Mrs. Willard Shell was co-host- ess. Mrs. H. D. Harrison, Jr., pro gram leader, introduced Mrs. Bobby Carter who gave a most interesting demonstration about flower arrangements. 0 MISS BETHUNE BRIDGE AND SUPPER HOSTESS TUESDAY EVENING ■ ' Miss Peggy Bethune invited members of her bridge tlub and other guests for supper and bridge on Tuesday night. Prizes were awarded to Mrs. Sam Morris for high score, Mrs. A. R. UPCHURCH WOODMEN CIRCLE INSTALLS OFFICERS Mr. and Mrs. Willard Shell were hosts to the Couples Bridge Club on Saturday night. All club members were present. The host ess served a dessert course before the game. Mrs. Robert Gatlin won the women’s high score prize and Dewey Huggins received the men’s award. Mrs. Stokes is the former Lydia McKeithan of Raeford. Mr. and Mrs. 0. B. Smith of Lexington, Ky., announce the birth of a daughter on Oct. 3. Mrs. Smith is the former Sandra Wood of Raeford. ^ i Mr. and Mrs. James Mellon of Rockfu-h announce the birth of a daughter, Betty Faye, on Oct. 5 at Scotland Memorial hospital. On Tuesday night members of her bridge club met with Mrs. Joe Upchurch. Visitors were Mrs. Clifton Davenport, Mrs. Lauchlin MacDonald and Mrs. Don Barrett. The hostess served a dessert before the game. Mrs. William Moses won the high score prize and Mrs. I. W. Kinlaw received the consolation award. The visit or’s prize went to Mrs. Barrett. 0 CLUB CALENDAR The Chaminade Music Club will meet Tuesday, October 18 at 7:45 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Alfred Cole. Mrs. Ken McNeill and Mrs. Neil Adams McNeill will be associate hostesses. CORRECTION: The Open Meeting of the Woman’s Club will be held on Thursday night in the Methodist Church Fellowship room instead of the Presbyterian Church as incorrectly stated in last week’s paper. n Mr. and Mrs. Leon Gatlin have taken an apartment in Fayette ville. The Supreme Forest Woodmen Circle No. 179 met Thursday night at the Woodmen Hall to install officers and initiate two members, Mrs. Estelle Stedman and Mrs. Evelyn Blanton. President Jayne Campbell pre sided at the candlelight service and turned the gavel over to the new president, Christine Coth ran. During the business session it was announced that state inspec tion would be held in the hall on November 17. A letter was read requesting the Raeford Drill team to perform at the Southeastern District- Convention in Fairmont November 5. The social committee served refreshments at the close of the meeting.
