Cooper, Jr., pastor of I lie Sandhills Club To Meet Feb. 19 The regular luncheon meeting of the Sandhills Christian Women's Club, will be held at the Country Club of North Carolina on Wednesday, February 19, at 12 Noon. The special speaker will be Dr. Charles H. Stevens, of Winston -Salem, a College President and world renowned North Carolinian. Clarke Poole, of the Southern Pines Antique Class Shop will give a lecture and demonstration on Collective Antique Class. Mrs. Dewey Mimms, soloist of Southern Pines, will sing. She will be accompanied by Miss June Melvin of Aberdeen. Tickets for the "Men's Night Dinner" will be on sale at this luncheon. This dinner will be held on March 21. Babysitter service will be provided. For reservations please call Mrs. Willis Hood. The Reverend Mr. and Mrs. J.A. McAlpine, Presbyterian Missionaries to Japan, will show color slides and speak regarding their work in Nagoya, Japan. The entire greater Raeford community is invited to attend. The Rev. Mr. Cooper also announced that i church family supper would precede the Missions presentation. This will be a covered-dish meal, which will get underway at 6:30 p.m. Residents of the community are invited to prepare a dish and come with their families to join with the congregation in a time of personal fellowship with the McAlpines. During the special presentation in the Sanctuarv at 7:30 the Chapel Choir, composed of boys and girls in the fourth, fifth, and sixth grades, will sing several missions anthems. Josef Privette, the Church Director of Music, will lead the choir. An additional feature in the service will be the use of the e(kHensdafe Church's new Casavant Pipe Organ. The visit of tlie Rev. Mr. and Mrs. McAlpine here is of special significance since he was recently honored by the Japanese government in the presentation to him of the Imperial Order of the Sacred Treasurer in recognition of his long years of fruitful service in the field of education. He was one of only sixty-one foreigners so honoied. He and Mrs. McAlpine are evangelistic missionaries. Tribute To Be Given Dr.Vardell Miss Charlotte Hunter, president of Vardell Hall, extends a cordial invitation to all Flora Macdonald alumnae and friends in the area to a special program to be presented in the college auditorium, February 13, at 10 a.m. This program, and other features throughout the day, will be given as a tribute to the memory of Dr. Charles G. Vardell, builder and first president of Flora Macdonald College, and for whom its successor, Vardell Hall, is named. This celebration will mark the 109th anniversary of Dr. Vardell's birthday. Featured speaker will be Miss Willie Lawson, 1915 graduate of Flora Macdonald College, from Little Rock, Arkansas. Following the chapel program, everyone is invited to attend a coffee hour honoring the members of the Vardell family, several of whom will be present. The Vardell Memorial Concert will be presented by Sidney Buckley, baritone, at 8:00 p.m. in the college auditorium. Miss Mary Neil Sentcr,. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N. L. Scnter. of 1 15 North Highland St., Raeford, N.C., is among students at Meredith College on the Dean's list for completion of first semester work with a high academic standing. Her grade average must he equal to a high B for a Meredith student to qualify for the Dean's list. Specifically, she must have successfully completed 12 or more hours of work with a number of quality points equal to twice the number of hours plus three. The office of Dean L.A. Peacock publishes the list. Miss Seiner is a Senior at Meredith College. A coed and a man from Hoke County liavc been cited by Chancellor John 7 . Caldwell for attaining high academic honors at North Carolina State University. Marie Frances Bray and John Reid Davis, both sophomoies and residents of Raeford, earned academic averages of "B" or belter to join 1,849 other NCSU students who made the Dean's List. Miss Bray has been on the Dean's List every semester she has been at NCSU. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Biay of North Main Street, and is studying economics. Davis, an engineering operations student, is the sun of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Davis of Rt. I. Both are graduates of Huke County High School. Cadette Troop Holds Meeting Troop 169, a Cadette troop, of the Hoke County Girl Scouts honored their mothers Monday night with a Mother Daughter reception. Tlie program, held in the Methodist Fellowship Hall, consisted of a Flag Ceremony and a skit, "World Friendship". Nine of the Cadetles had speaking parts and represented different countries. The remainder of the troop was a responsive chorus. A Valentine motif was used in the refreshments and the decorations. On February 12, Troop 169 will go to Fayetteville to meet with Mrs. Ann Toico's Cadettes and to discuss joint plans fur the Camporee in April.
