Fower McBrydc of Raeford celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary on Sunday afternoon, February 9. Hosts for the reception were Mr. and Mrs. J. Hal Kinlaw of St. Pauls, Mr. and Mrs. Tliomas V. Cardwell of Madison, Miss Mary Hlack McBryde of Washington, D.C., and Mr. and Mrs. C. Foster McBrydc Jr. of Raeford. About 150 relatives and friends called during the afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kinlaw in St. Pauls. Nine of the McBryde' eleven grandchildren joined their parents in receiving guests. Also assisting were Mr. and Mrs. Cutlar Ballance, Mrs. Tom Hoy, Mr. and Mrs. Dan McCormick and Mrs. Russell Powers, all of St. Pauls. A gold and white motif was used in decorating the home. Mr. and Mrs. McBryde are life-long residents of Hoke County. They were married on February 5,1919. PERSONALS Mrs. Joseph Hoffman of Ft. Monroe, Va. spent from Tuesday through Sunday with her mother, Mrs. N. B. Blue, and her brother, Neill James Blue. Mrs. Frank Hedrick returned to her home in Roxboro Saturday after a two week visit with her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Carlton Niven and children. She came especially to be with the children while their parents and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Dickson were on a trip to the Florida Keys. Mrs. Jim Carver of Durham spend the weekend with her mother, Mrs. W. Shower Honors Miss Kay Brady March bride-elect Kay Brady wis honored with miscellaneous shower held Saturday night at the Hoke Civic Center. Hostesses were Mrs. Dick McFadyen Jr., Mrs. John Aldridge and Mrs. John Harris. The refreshment table, spread with white cloth, held an arrangement of white bridal flowers, white tapers and red hearts. Red camellias were used on the console. Refreshments carried out the Valentine motif. Mrs. H. K. Brady, mother of the honoree, poured coffee. Miss Brady's gift from the hostesses was an electric toaster. Baker's Dozen Bridge Club The Baker's Dozen Bridge Club honored a member, Mrs. Neill McFadyen Jr., with a surprise stork shower on Thursday night at the home of Mrs. Younger Snead Jr. Mrs. Harry Pamplin was co-hostess. Mrs. McFadyen was presented an infant's dressing table filled with smaller baby gifts. She also received a corsage of pink carnations, centered with a tiny stork. ice cream, cakes, nuts and Cokes were served before play began and candies and Cokes during the game. Mrs. Phil Die hi and Mrs. Sam Copper were visitors. Prizes went to Mrs. Bill McPhaul for club high score and Mrs. Copper for visitor's high. Kim Jordan Birthday Kim Jordan, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Riley Jordan, had a supper party Friday to celebrate her 14th birthday. She served hot dogs, cup cakes and Cokes. Guests were Caroline Niven. DRAPERIES season insulated-lined o : J w 84" length 10.44 WO MANS CLUB Garden Club Meets Tuesday The Raeford Garden Club met Tuesday afternoon, Feb. Ilth in the Hoke County Library. Mrs. W. K. Morgan and Mrs. Wayne Gibson were hostesses. A Valentine Motif was used in their decorations' and refreshments. When the members arrived they were served red fruit punch with cake squares and nuts. A silver candelabrum held red candles and valentines with white carnations, snapdragons and baby's breath. A red linen cloth was used. A valentine abstract arrangement entitled "A Message For My Love", made by Mrs. Robert Taylor was used to decorate the table. The chairman, Mrs. Truman Austin, presided over the business session which was opened with tlie reading of the club collect by the members. Mrs. Marion Gatlin, chairman of the nominating committee presented the names of Mrs. Wayne Gibson for the Vice Chairman and Mrs. Robert Taylor for Treasurer. They were elected to serve for the next two years. It was announced that entries for the local Fine Arts Festival must be turned in by Feb. 18lh. Plans for the District Fine Arts Festival to be held in Raeford on March 8th were presented by Mrs. Wayne Gibson. A progress report was given on tlie Annual Horse Show which will be on March 29th. The 1969 United Forces For Education Legislative Program was explained by Mrs. Sam Home wood. She urged the members to contact their Representatives and Senators on this vital issue stressing Unity in Strength. Its purpose is the improvement of the public schools. Mrs. C. R. Clark presented a most interesting and informative program on abstract arrangements. She used pictures illustrating several types of abstracts. Each member was presented with a large white mum and red velvet valentine, compliments of a local florist. Mrs. C. R. Clark won the door prize. PERSONALS SGM and Mrs. T. A. Cherry and family from Ft. Benning, Ga. spent the weekend with Mrs. Cherry's parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Meeks. They came especially to see Mrs. Cherry's brother, Keith Meeks and family, who are leaving for a tour in England next week.
