Mr and Mrs. J. D. Mattlock
have recently received the news
of the arrival of their first
grandson, Brian Jay Beeler,

Beeler Feb. 4th at San
Bernardino, Calif. Mr. and Mrs.
Malt lock's other grandchild is a
girl.
The Rockfish Fireman had a
fish fry at the Fire House
Thursday night. Guests were
tlieir wives and children. It was
a real success.
Mrs. George Pit t man Sr., is
making her home with Mr. and
Mrs. Edgar human. Mrs.
Pitt man had to give up
housekeeping at her own home
because of her age and
declining health.
Mrs. Nelia Brock and Mrs.
June Rogers and sons, Keith
and Craig, visited Mr. and Mrs.
Lawson Ldinund of Fair Bluff
Sunday.
Mrs. Smylie Grantham
found her lost dog the past
weekend up on 401 in a field
near the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Ed Newton. Now the dog may
have to be jailed for a while.

his mother Mrs. Floyd Nugent
Jr., took him back to
Philadelphia, where he is on
the USS New Orleans. He will
leave for San Diego, Calif.,
Feb. IS and from there he will
go to Vietnam sometime soon.

Alfred Berry. Johnny Cecil
spent the weekend with them
and went to school from here
on the school bus Monday 1.

Mrs. Stacy llubson, who has
been a patient at Highsmith -Rainey
Memorial Hospital for
some time, is reported much 4
better this week and she is
expected to come home this
week.
Mrs. Will Ritter, who had
major surgery at Cape Fear
Valley Hospital on Tuesday of
last week and was in a serious
condition for some time after
the surgery was reported much
better this week.
Mrs. N. J. Ritter, who has
been a patient at Moore
Memorial Hospital for several
weeks, had surgery there
Monday and was doing fine
after the surgery.
Mrs. C. M. Cliason heard
Monday night that her brother,
Wilson Scssoms, of Glenburnie,
Md. was taken to a hospital
there seriously ill, last Saturday
night. He was impioving
Monday.
Mrs. Smith Mclnnis who has
had a long siege of flu etc.,
having been sick ever since
before Christmas, was some
better at last account but still
weak from the long illness.
Mrs. Lester Simpson Jr. and
son, Lester III, of Jacksonville,
are spending a few days this
week with her parents. Mr. and 4
Mrs. Joe Lovette and her uncle
John Parker of Wayside.
Relatives of Robert Molt of
Pompano Beach have heard
that he recently underwent
surgery for a slipped disc.
Robert is the son of Mis. Mary
Shrcwbridgc and is well known
here.

McPherson and children Tom
Jr., Davis and l.liabcth of
Yanceyville spent the past
weekend with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Kirk Parker of
Wayside. Mrs. Parker was in
bed with phlebitis the past
week and over the weekend.
Mrs. Marshall Newton spent
Sunday and Monday nights
with her sister, Miss Lessic
Martin in St. Pauls.
The news sounds better this
week. There are no deaths to
report and all the sick are
improving

N B Tl FN CLUB
The N-H Teen club met
Tuesday February 4. The
minutes were read and
approved. Then the roll was
called. There were 5 members
and 2 leaders present. Marilyn
Barnes presided and Patty Dees
had devotion.
The club discussed future
plans for a bake sale. The
meeting was adjourned until
March 4.

Scholarship
Deadline Nears
Raleigh Applications for
the Prospective Teacher
Scholaiship Loan Fund, a
program created by the 1957
General Assembly to encourage
students to train as teachers,
must be submitted no later
than March I. 1969. Students
interested in teaching in the
North Carolina public schools
and who aie in need of
financial assistance for college
training during the 1969-70
school year should write to:
Scholaiship Section. Division
of Teacher Education,
Department of Public
Instruction. Raleigh 27602.
According to Morris C.
Brown, supervisor of the
Teacher Scholarship Loan
Ptogram, about 600 awards
will be made in March and
April. Fach recipient will
receive S600 per year for up to
four sears of study. "Priority
will be given to applicants who
plan to leach in the elementary
grades: however, other areas of
study will be considered," he
said.
A scholaiship loan recipient
may fulfill his obligation to the
State by teaching in the public
schools of North Carolina one
year for each year of assistance
received.
