HAR TESTER Cucumbers along with other vegetable crops are rapidly increasing in importance along the Eastern Seaboard. The above picture multi ? pick cucumber harvester will be one of the featured items in the Xorth Carolina State University. Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering's display at the Robeson County Farm Trade Show on February 17 and 18. Lumberton Show To Feature Exhibits Among the numerous exhibits at the Robeson County Farm Trade Show will be experimental and working models of tune and expense saving machines developed by the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, North Carolina State University. Among the machines exhibited will be working models of multi ? pick cucumber harvester, automatic tobacco planters and mulch planting equipment. Commercial companies will have on display production models of other machines on which the preliminary work and methods were developed by N.C. State University and later adapted to commercial production. These will include tobacco harvester. ? blueberry harvester and others. Persons attending the Robeson County Farm Trade Show will have the opportunity to see under one roof the largest display of farm equipment and supplies ever assembled in Southeastern Tracy Monroe, Hoke Native, Dies Tuesday Tracy Monroe, a native of Hoke County died Tuesday in Fayettevillc. Funeral scivices were held Wednesday at Galalia Presbyterian Cliuieh by the Rev. Charles Kirkpatruk with burial in the church cemetery Monroe was born and raised in Hoke County but had lived for the last several years in Faycttcville where he worked for T & L Auto Parts. Surviving him are Ins wife. .Irene: two sons. Terry and Jeffrey Monroe, two daughters. Nancy and Pamela Monroe, all of the home. Ins patents. Mr. and Mrs. W.M. Monroe of Rt 2, Kaelord. two brothers. Arnold of Fayettevillc and Harold Monioe of Racturd. two sisteis. Mrs Thomas Wood of Fayettevillc and Mrs. Minor McGouean of St Pauls. North Carolina. Exhibitors will feature their new lines of machinery and supplies as well as their standard production products. The primary purpose of the show is to give farmers a chance to see the newest developments in expense and time saving materials. The Trade Show will be held at the Co - Op Warehouse which is located on Highway 74 East of Lumberton, North Carolina. It will be open from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. each day of February and February 18. Valuable door prizes will be presented each hour. Ladies and youth are cordially invited to attend the show. Mayor McNeill Proclaims Feb. Heart Month A proclamation designating February as Heart Month, and pointing out that diseases of the heart and blood vessels are responsible for more deaths than all other diseases combined, was signed February 9, 1970 by Mayor John K. McNeill. Jr. of Raeford. N. C. Text of the proclamation follows: "Whereas, diseases of the heart and blood vessels are responsible for more deaths than all other causes combined, causing widespread suffering, and often creating serious economic hardship in our homes and business, "And whereas, your Heart Association carries forward a relentless tight against these diseases through its programs of research, education and community service, as made possible by public contributions to the Heart Fund; "Therefore, I proclaim February to be Heart Month within the jurisdiction of my office, and call upon all our citizens to support this important drive with their gifts and voluntary services." DECA Holds Monthly Meet The Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) met last Wednesday Night in the D E. Room at Hoke County High School. It was decided that the Employer - Employee Banquet would be held April 24th. Tins is a dinner meeting with all D E. II students and their employees for whom they work. Also invited are those community leaders who have helped our Distributive Education Program this year: Rax Autry; principal, Donald Abernethy, county superintendent; Sam Morris of The News - Journal; Harold Bledsoe, manager of WSHB radio; Harold Gillis.
