Planners Meet
On Zone Laws
A 1962 central business district study
that recommended off ? street parking,
closing some streets to traffic and
creating attractive shopping malls was
called to the attention of the Raeford
Planning Board last week by an official of
the Department of Conservation and
Development.
Berry Williams, a staff member of the
Department of Public Affairs Planning
Division of t lie conservation and
development department, recommended
the planning board and the city
government look at the study and
consider implementing some of ihe
suggestions.
Williams met with the planning board
here March 10 to explain and discuss the
proposed new zoning ordinances This is
the third meeting with him. John Caddy,
city managei said, and was the last one
before the public hearing on the
ordinances April 27.
Gaddy said he would be happy to
discuss ihe proposed zoning changes with
anyone before the \pnl hearing,
however. .
The planning board also adopted rules
of procedure for the operation of the
board. Regulai monthly meetings were
set for the first Tuesday of each month at
2 p.m. at the Court House.
Elections were set for June and
provisions were adopted to allow a boaid
chairman to succeed himself.
Bill Howell, chairman, presided at the
