Lady Democrats To Hold Workshop A workshop for Democratic women of the Seventh Congressional District will be held in Lumberton at Holiday Inn North, Highway 1-95, on Tuesday, April 28. Plans are announced by Mrs. Worth D. Williamson of Lumberton, Seventh District director of the State Democratic Party. The workshop is one of several being held in Congressional districts throughout the state this spring under direction of Mrs. James M. Harper, Jr.. of Southport, vice chairman of the North Carolina Democratic F.xecutive Committee. Highlighting the morning program here will be addresses by Lieutenant Governor Pat Taylor, Mrs. Harper and Mrs. Betty Maurer of Winston - Salem, who is state advisor of Teen Dems. Congressman Alton G. Lennon of Wilmington will extend greetings. Welcome will be given by W. Earl Britt of Fairmont, chairman of the Robeson County Democratic Executive Committee. Mrs. Robert W. Scott, wife of the Governor of North Carolina, will speak at the I o'clock luncheon which will conclude the workshop. She will be introduced by Mrs. W.F. Scarborough of Lumberton. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. The opening session is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. with Mrs. Williamson presiding. Knox M. Barnes of Lumberton will introduce the lieutenant governor, whose topic will he 'The Democratic Party". Mrs. Harper will discuss 'The Place of Women in the Democratic Party", and Mrs. Maurer will talk about "Involving Teenagers". After a coffee break, Mrs. Harper will moderate a "How to" Panel, in which participants will include Mrs. Leif Valand of Raleigh, past vice chairman of the State Democratic Executive Committee, and Luther J. Britt, Jr., immediate past president of the Robeson Democratic Executive Committee, Horace E. Stacy, Jr., and Mrs. W. H. Faulk, all of Lumberton. Women active in Democratic affairs in the seven counties comprising the Seventh Congressional District are assisting Mrs. Williamson in plans for the workshop. They are: Bladen - Mrs. Wanda S. Campbell of Elizabethtown. vice chairman of the county executive committee. Brunswick - Mrs. Ida Mae Mintz of Bolivia, county vice chairman,and Mrs. A.P. Henry, Jr., of Winnabow. deputy director. Columbus - Mrs. Howard Singletary, county vice chairman. Mrs. Graham Walton, deputy director; and Mrs. D.W. Pittman, president of Columbus Democratic Women, all of Whiteville. Cumberland - Mrs. Rudolph S i n g 1 e ton, county vice chairman, Mrs. Edward David and Mrs. Bobby Myers, all of Fayetteville. ?Hoke - Mrs. T. J. Harris of Route 3, Red Springs, county vice chairman. New Hanover - Mrs. Eunice Den way of Carolina Beach, county vice chairman. Robeson - Mrs. Ed Ayers, Jr., of St. Pauls, county vice chairman, and Mrs. W.F. Scarborough, deputy director. Interested women throughout the district are invited to attend the workshop. The cost of the luncheon will be S2.00. Those planning to be present may make reservations for the luncheon with Mrs. Williamson or with one of her assistants named above by April 24. News Briefs Sam Motley, who resigned last week as assistant police chief for Raeford. is now working as a security officer at McCain Sanatorium and is also a deputy under Hoke County Sheriff D M. Barrington. Motley said he and Ins family will live in Raeford until July and then he expects to move to McCain. William Colston, teacher and coach at Hoke High, has received a National Science Foundation grant from the University of South Carolina to attend the summer mathematics institute there for high school teachers. Melton Pittman. of Rt. 2, Raeford, driving a 1966 Pontiac, sideswiped the automobile driven by Sarah Stevens Baxley of Raeford Thursday afternoon. The accident occurred on South Main Street. Damages were estimated at SHOO to the Pittman car and S900 to the Baxley car. Pittman. who was reported traveling at a high rate of speed, was charged with exceeding a safe speed A two-car accident on Highway 211 last Thursday morning near Teal Oil Company resulted in extnesive damage to both cars. Ann Stephens of Rt. 3. Raeford. was charged with failure to yeild right of way after hitting a car driven by Boyce l.ee Clia'is of Rt. I. I.umberlon The damage to Mrs. Stephen's car was estimated at S300 and the damage to Chavis's at S650. Raeford policeman J.C. Barnngton, who tracked down a stolen car last month, found another one on the night of April 8. He stopped a driver, James F. McNeill of Lumberton, on Main Street late at night and found he had no driver's license. On further checking, lie received a report that the car, a l%5 Chevrolet, had been stolen front Mrs. I ois Locklear of Lumberton. McNeill was also charged with driving a stolen car. J The Singing Faulkner Family of Fayetteville will he singing at the Pentecostal Holiness Church, located on Prospect and Weaver Streets, Sunday night at 7 p.m. The pastor, the Rev. Frank Moore, invites everyone to attend. A called meeting of the Friendship Senior Citizens Club will be held April 20 at 2 p.m. at Raeford Methodist Church The purpose of the meeting is to make plans to send delegates to the senior citizens convention May 21 ? 22 to be held in Fayetteville. ?(-KNKKAL?
