The two men are Second ?U. Marion C. Miller, the All Army orienteering; champion, from Greer, S.C.. and Capt. Maurice T. Lough. Elkton, Va. Miller and Loufth won their position* on the U.S. orien teering team along with five member* of the Marine Corps at the trials just completed at Quantico Marine Base, Va. Orienteering, a relatively new sport in the United States, is the art of land navigation over a harsh, un familiar countryside, using only a map, compass and the various terrain features. Senior girls did not wear drapes this year, but they COME OUT AND SUPPORT THE KUCKS wore tlieir own desired apparel. The social life at H.H.S. is beginning to take shape, as well as the scholastic life, wliicli has been "swinging" with tests, papers, and all the other highlights of school life. The Beta Club has its first meeting, Thursday night to discuss its future activities. Officers were elected last year and they are Katliy Sanders, president, Reba Best, vice-president, Donna Jackson, secretary, Katliy Davis! treasurer and Jimmy Womble, executive representative. The Beta Club has decided to change organizations. It will now be known as a chanter of the National Honor Society. The two organizations differs in many way. To be a member of the Beta Club, a student must obtain an overall average of 90. If the student has this average he is automatically in the Beta Qlub. To be a member of the National Honor Society, the student must not onlv obtain a 90 average, but lie must have leadersliip qualities and must have rendered some type of service to lus school. The members are screened and picked by a board of teachers. Any member that is picked for the Honor Society can be very honored to be u part of this society. The DECA club had its meeting Wednesday night. All parents Mr. Autry and Mr. Donald D. Abcrnathy, and the DECA'S advisor, Mr. Donald Steed were present. Officers were inducted, they are Donna Owen, president, Yvonne Baker, vice president, Teresa lvcy, secretary, Doris Eleby, treasurer and Bobby Smith, Historian. After the induction service, it was decided that September 30th would be the deadline for DECA dues. The dues are $2.25. Also October 15th will be the first DECA district day at Pine Forest High School. The DECA district is made up of 24 high schools. "Miss DECA" and the "Job Interview" winner will be announced at this district meeting. Last Friday was election day at H.H.S., to clect class officers and Student Council Representatives from cach class. Those chosen for tlte Senior Class arc as follows: Willian Campbell, president, Don Williamson, vicc president, Carolyn Leggett, secretary, and Ricky Campbell treasurer. The Junior class officers are Michcal Adkinson, president, Kelly Jordan vice president. Evelyn Brown, secretary, and Ronnie Buie treasurer. For the Sophomores Eddie Dupree will serve as president, Pat McKoy, vice president, Linda Teal, secretary, and Gail Conely, treasurer. Last, but not least, Hoke High's "green freshman. President is Veronica Singletary, Bcrnicc Bratcher, vice president, Beverly Foster, secretary, and Debra Foster treasurer. Student Council Representatives that will serve our school this year. Representatives for the Class of '71 are Stephanie Atkinson, Tom Howell, Ruby McNair, Billy McNeill and Rhonda McPhatter. Junior Representatives are David Wood, Missy Upchurch, Calvin McNeil. Beth lvcy, and the last member will have to be decided by a run-off between Debbie Leach and Anderson Hostetlcr. Members from the. Sophomore Class are Sallv Austin, Chuck Davis, Kim Jordan, Cynthia McNeill, and Veronica Willis. Freshmen Representatives are Don Brock, Sandc Hasty, Tommy Kennedy, Julie Kicklighter and Beth Wood. This week was a victorious week for not only the Bucks but the Baby Bucks too! The Baby Bucks were host to the RockinRham J.V.'s. Our Bucks did shine as they defeated the Rockets 14*2. The Junior Varsity chcerleading squad was theic to boost our Baby Bucks to their astounding victory. The squad consists of Linda Teal, chief. Sylvia McPhatter, co-chief, Gail Conoly, Faye Djvis, Carol McDuffie, Pat McKay, Becky Stedman, Debbie Caulder. and Judy Faulk. Let's all support the Baby Bucks like we did at their home game, as they travel to Lumberton to "steal away" with another victory from the Lumberton Pirates. Friday night the Bucks traveled to Rockingham to take on the Rockcts, and they came home with another victory , gift wrapped in a nice little package. School spirit was riding high Friday afternoon as a pep rally was lield in the stadium for the students. Thtre was an abundant amount of "Raefordites" at the game as we beat Rockingham for the second time in 34 years. I would like to extend a hearty congratulations to the whole team and especially to Mark Heath as he put the icing on the cake when he ran a 98 yard touchdown. The Bucks will play their first home game Friday night as the Lumberton Pirates ride to Raeford. and they'll be "riding for a fall" when lltey challenge the Bucks. Be sure to support your team!! The Hoke County High Band produced a da//hng performance Friday night at Rockingham. The majorettes, letter girls, and flag bears added to the excitement of the half 11 me show as they werC'stcpping high". Majorettes this year are Bert Pope, chief. Kim Jordan. Carol McDuffie. Linda McGuimn, Beth Wood and Cynthia Hollingsworth. Letter girls are Donna Jackson, Karen Soles, Julia Ann Gibson, Hilda Paul, j Cynghia McNeil. Dons Jordon, ! and Pam Cunningham. Flag bearers are Kathy i Keaton. Linda Paul, Pat I Tubeiville. Beth Ivey. Lynn ' Ivey and Becky Plummcr. These grrls realh add a lot to a UMltand.
