Aides Need Help To Solve Storage ftarfmq^tlgpn The Mim |rtn. DM. Piercti and Simmon* may ring i food. - be8 for many hare In the county. We an often referred to as "cooking ladies." W? |rt , working under the direction of our extension Horn*'' Economics Agent, Mrs. Ellen Willis and atate agents as nutrition workers. Nutrition la not a big word but one that all of us sort of sweep under the rug a good bit of the time. This happens in all classes and areas of people. Our main objective Is to help people of low-income understand and use this word. #o?ng so, we have helped ra^' use many of the unodity items that in the past MBit "just not fit to eat." - But our work does not end 4 in aoojtiif and preparing a dish We would Tike to smph?he proper storage of foods. This Is necessary to keep an hand foods needed for a well balanced diet. We have used lard stands, |?xfe plastic and tim containers, tome of which we covered with contact paper to make them mora attractive. But this is not sufficient in many cases. Some uee worn out freezers or refrigerators to keep their food. To help eliminate the stroage problem, specialists from itate collet* have designed a cabinet to meet the need* of low income families. This cabinet an be built with a minimum of expenae. On July l? 1970, we u nutrition workert, attended a workshop In Sanford where we had the experience of making this cabinet. We w?r? a bit awkward at first with the hammer and nails but toon teamed to uae them and with the help of ittte specialist, Mrs. Greenlee, we produced a 13-inch baa* cabinet. The pieces were ready cut which made it easier. However, we did not feel one experience was enough to make us able teachers. Later we undertook making another cabinet. We were very fortunate to have the cooperation of Mr. ViUines, Mr. Sim peon, Mr. Williams, and Mr. Locklear of the High School Ai- Dept., who measured and cut our cabinets. They guided us patiently until we finished. We made one !3 inch cabinet and two 26 inch cabinets for extra storage. We feel cabinets of this type would greatly baittfU our people as it has nl JWBfc very pleased with omtjBjljwould like to with otfWCL , the h?tp Qf"^ men in wcxxl ______ carry odt dli rrsjUjilTyou are interest*?.
