Lei us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unio us. (Luke 2:15) In the Grotto of the Nativity in Bethlehem. I sal down by the silver stai which marks the traditional place where Christ was born. The walls were heavily draped. Sixteen silver lamps were burning. How far away seemed that first manger scene! I closed my eyes to escape lite glare of those metal lamps, and other manger scenes came before me. One was from a green island thousands of miles away. I recalled a rustic platform, adorned with coconut palms, standing in an open pasture. Hundreds of country people were gathered reverently around it. Some of their own young people were acting out the Christmas story. They. too. followed the shepherds and the wise men to Bethlehem "to sec this thing which is come to pass." It happened right there in their own Held. 1 felt closer to the manger of our Lord in that field so far away than in the Grotto of the Nativity in Bethlehem. PRAYER! Dear God, we thank Thee that throughout the whole world loving hearts are dedicated to making real the story of the coming of Thy Son. Fill us with joy as we remember the coming of our Lord to live among men. Amen. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY Wherever we find Christ for ourselves - that is Bethlehem.
