Revival services begin at Parker Church next Sunday night. May 2, at 7:30. The guest minister will be the Rev. Joe Hinkle of Laurinburg. The public is invited. The W.S.C.S. of Parker Church met with Mrs. Hugh Hair this week, Tuesday a.m., with very good attendance. Mrs. Clarence Mclnnis of West fcnd and her sister, Mrs. Dotal Myrick of Pompano Beach, I la., were guests of Mr and Mrs. George Dees last Ihursday. Mr. and Mrs. Dees and their guests visited her lather. A.L. Long, at Cape Fear Nursing Center and found him resting well that day. Miss Nellie McFadyen and Miss Donnie Barefoot were dinner guests of Mist Alma Capps Sunday. They visited Mrs. Will Ritter and Mrs. Cleveland Barefoot at Confederate Woman's Home in Fayetteville and saw some of the beautiful flower gardens in the Fayetteville area Sunday p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Monroe spent several days last week at Long Beach. Mrs. R.H. Gibson, Sr. and Mrs. Henry Fowler spent a few days last week with Mrs. Johnny Allen and daughters Sandra, Shirley and Teresa of Charleston, S.C. Mrs. R.V. Tanner, Carol and Kathy Fowler spent the weekend with Mrs. Johnny Allen and daughters of Charleston, S.C. Mrs. Allen heard last week that her husband, M/Sgt. Allen, had suffered a heart attack in Alaska. He was able to talk with her since the attack. Mr. and Mrs. James Thornton and Mrs. Jarmon Koonce of Cumberland were guests of Mr. and Mrs. David Koonce Sunday p.m. Thomas Mclnnis and his mother, Mrs. Mary Mclnnis, had as their Sunday dinner guests Mr. and Mrs. Dan Mclnnis of Raeford and Mr. and Mrs. James E. Mclnnis of Fayetteville. Mrs. A.W. Wood and grandson Donald and granddaughter Becky Wood were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Wood of Fayetteville Sunday. David Wood of Raeford is spending some time this week with his grandmother, Mrj. A.W. Wood. Mrs. Gordon Barnard and Mrs. Dennis Rivers and sons Denny and Tommy of Cheraw, S.C. spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Barnard and daughter Tanna and Mrs. C.H. Dove. Lee and all the residents of the Tillman Rest Home attended services at Whispering Pines Church Sunday night. Mrs. Lila Mabe, Mm. Ada Jackson. Mr. and Mrs. Smith Mclnnis visited Mr. and Mrs. David Lancaster and son Brian of Raleigh last Sunday. Although it is old it may be news to some that Earl Brock *>n of Mrs. Nelia Brock, has' !"Jtaying wi,h her *nd Mr. and Mrs. June Rogers since he was released from the sanatorium at McCain in March. Miss Mary Sessoms returned jo her home on Rt. 3 FayetteviUe last Friday after' spending over a week with Mr. jnd Mrs. C.M. Chason and son Larry. Charles M Chason visited his brother, Tom Chason, at Veterans Hospital, FayetteviUe Sunday p.m. He also saw Jesse McLaurin, a former resident of Rockfish, who is a patient there. Mrs. Hugh Overton spent last week going back and forth to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jack Guy, while Mrs. Guy was sick and both of her sons Tony and Mike had mumps. They were better by the end of the week and Mrs. Overton had time to relax on Sunday SILVER WEDDING ANNIVERSARY Mrs. Ethel D. Gibson and Mr. and Mrs. M.S. Gibson, Joy and Ricky attended the silver wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. C.M. Kelly at the Castle Haynes Presbyterian Church hut in Wilmington last Sunday p.m., April 25. Mrs. Gibson returned home with Mr. and Mrs. M.S. Gibson after spending most of last week with Mr. and Mrs. Kelly and Mr. and Mrs. Sammy Bennett and their son, Brian. Mr. an<l Mrs. Ernest McDonald of Rockingham stopped by the home of A.L. Long, Sr. and talked with his daughter, Mrs. Louise Watson. They said they were special friends of her father and came to see him, not knowing that he is at Cape Fear Nursing Center. They had just come from FayetteviUe and couldn't go right back but promised to come again and see Mr. Long. Mr. and Mrs. Kirk Parker stayed with the McPherson children, Tom, Davis and Elizabeth, from Friday to Sunday while their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McPherson of Yanceyville, attended a Rotary District meeting at Nags Head. Howard Batton of Lackland AFB, Texas is at home on 8 day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.E. Batton of Wayside and with his sister, Mrs. Virginia Willis and other relatives. Mrs. Marshall Newton, Mrs. Adelinelyne Johnson of Puppy Creek, Mrs. Floyd Monroe and Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Gulledge of Raeford spent the past weekend at Long Beach. Gideon Ralph Plummer, Mrs. Plummer and daughter Becky attended the Gideon State Convention in Charlotte Friday to Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McFadyen and children Susan, Richard and Doris also attended the convention at the same time. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Simpson and son Lester III of Jacksonville spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Lovette. Mrs. Lovette has been hearing from her sister, Mrs. Mary Shewbridge, since she returned to Margate, Fla. and she it getting along fine. BIRTHDAY The family of Mrs. Alfred Berry celebrated her birthday which was on Friday, April 23, with a picnic dinner at her home Sunday. Her son, Daniel Berry, called Friday to wish his mother "Happy Birthday." He wai remembered by the family on Sunday as that was his birthday. Mrs. Guy Berry made the birthday cake and all the children brought food for the outdoor picnic dinner. Mrs. Berry received many nice gifts of clothing, other articles and money. Her children and grandchildren who were present were O.G. Berry of the home, Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Berry and daughter Denise of Fayetteville, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Currie and children Ralph, Johnny and Peggy Cecil, and William Rex Currie, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Berry and daughter Paula of Raeford, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sojka of Fayetteville, Mrs. Paula Owens of Parkton and Mr. Alfred Berry. Mrs. Berry is entirely too young to tell her age and may she have many more happy birthdays. Late Sunday p.m., Mrs. Gus Parker and her sister, Mrs. Berry, went to visit Mr. and Mrs. Lovell Oliver of Fairmont. Mrs. Oliver went with them to the cemetery at Ashepole Presbyterian Church where they placed fresh flowers on the graves of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dan McKellar. From there they went to Kentyre Presbyterian Church in South Carolina where their brother, James McKellar, is buried. This church was having an all day celebration of its 100 anniversary last Sunday. They arrived back home about 8 o'clock so it was really a full day for Mrs. Berry. Mrs. Jim Maxwell attended a birthday celebration for Mrs. Luther Jones at her home last Sunday. BIRTHDAY The women of Philippi Church gave a birthday dinner for Mrs. John Patterson at her home last Wednesday evening. It was a surprise to Mrs. Patterson and Miss Sarah Patterson when the women arrived with gifts, birthday cake and everything for the dinner which was served buffet style. They sang happy birthday to Mrs. Patterson and wished her many more happy birthdays. Later on Mrs. Patterson's children from Fayetteville arrived with gifts and birthday cake. They were Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Parsons and daughter Jean and her husband, Mrs. Robert Spears, Mrs. Daniel Patterson and son and his wife. Mrs. Floyd Monroe and Mrs. Agnes Clark joined the family in presenting gifts to Mrs. Patterson. Cake ind ice cream were served and all of Mrs. Patterson's relatives and friends wished for her many more happy birthdays. Mrs. J.D. Mattlock visited Mrs. Patterson on her birhtday and made a dress for her. Mrs. R.H. Edge's mother, Mrs. Flora Phillips of Dunn, spent last week with Mrs. Edge and her son Malburn. BIKTHDAY Mr. and Mrs. June Rogers and sons Craig and Keith and Mrs. Nelia Brock gave a birthday dinner for his mother, Mrs. Alma Bryant at their home last Sunday. They had a grand dinner with birthday cake and all the extras. Mrs. Bryant received many nice gifts. Guests from a distance were her son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Brian Bryant, her mother, Mrs. Johnson of Mullins, S.C., her daughter, Miss Helen Bryant of Myrtle Beach, Mr. and Mrs. Lawton Edwards and children Diantha, Joe and Keith of Flair Bluff. No age was given so Mrs. Bryant must be quite young and all her friends and relatives wish for her many more happy birthdays. BIRTHDAY Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hobson and son David of Coats were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Stacy Hobson of Wayside Sunday. David was 1 year old and his birthday was celebrated in the afternoon when their guests were Mr. and Mrs. H.O. Langdon, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Mosely, Mr. and Mrs. Linwood Huffman and children Chris and Kim, Miss Delia Blue, Mr. and Mrs. Allen McDonald and children Hedia and Macky of Raeford. All brought gifts for David and Mrs. Hobson served ice cream and cake. May little David have many many more happy birthdays. ?I'-IK'J I Last yea* all John B< saved was $5432.
