Hoke ASCS News . By THOMAS 1. BURGESS FARM PAYMENTS WILL BEGIN JULY FIRST - North Carolina farmers who are enrolled in the 1971 aet -aside programs on cotton, feed grain, and wheat will start receiving their payments on July 1. Although the late spring slowed down the acreage certifications necessary to compute these payments, County ASCS Offices will still start making payments on July I. A large percentage of the payments will be made during the month of July. County ASCS Offices send data sheets on each farm to New Orleans where the Data Processing Center computes the payments earned and prints out sight drafts and statements - of ? payment computations. These are then returned to the County ASCS Office for issuance to producers. No payments may be issued until July 1, the beginning of the fiscal year, when sufficient funds become available. Some 89,000 producers are participating in the feed grain program, 44,000 in the wheat program, and 13,000 in the cotton program in North Carolina thb year. The programs are voluntary. In return for participation, producers earn price - support payments and are eligible for price ? support loans. To earn these payments, .they limit production of the program crops, and set aside cropland acres for conserving uses which protect the soil. FARMERS SHOULD KEEP PAYMENT COMPUTATION STATEMENTS - Producers who earn payments in the 1971 set ? aside program for feed grain, wheat, and cotton will receive payment computation statements along with their payment drafts. It is most important for producers "<.to retain these computation statements along with their other farm records. The computation statements provide these important details: 1. Program for which payment it made. (Peed grain, wheat, a? cotton) 2. Both (tom and net oaymenta, for entire farm and for individual producer. 3. Planted acreage and set ? aside acreage. 4. Projected yield, uied for payment computations. Producers mould verify their computation statements with their farm records before filing them in a safe place. If they have any questions, they should get in touch with their County ASCS Office as soon as possible. If farm program computation statements are lost or destroyed, producers may obtain the information from records in the County ASCS Office. Farm program payments for 1971 will begin July 1.
