Magazine Peddlers
The Consumer Protection
Division of the Attorney
General's office has reported
receiving a number of
complaints against a group of
door ? to ? door magazine
salesmen who operated briefly
in the Raleigh area. The
salesmen, claiming to be
compefing on a point basis for
a European tour allegedly
mnde several misrepresent
ations of fact in the course of
their presentations.
Misrepresentations pertained
to . the number of points
needed by the salesman to win
the prize and the time
remaining in the contest, the
minimpm number of magazine
issues which could be ordered,
and the existence of special
rates for students.
Some salesmen were Iqiown
to have told customers that the
salesman was responsible for
the payment of any order once
he had started "writing it up"
even though the order is not
authorized or refused by the
customer.
The Attorney General warns
citizens to be very careful in
their dealings with these
salesmen, and ask anyone
suspecting such misrepresent
ation to obtain the name of the
salesman and then contact the
Consumer Protection Division.
