Turner-Gillis Wedding Sunday At Galatia
Miss Mary Jane Stewart
Gillis of Fayetleville became
the bride of Roy Turner of
Fairfield, California,m in an
afternoon ceremony
solemnized Sunday, August 8,
at Galatia Presbyterian Church.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. John McNatl
Gillis of Fayetteville. Mr.
Turner is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Carl Turner of Fairfield,
California. The Rev. Russell
Fleming officiated at the
double ring service.
The program of nuptial
music was presented by Mason
Bell, organist, and Miss
Kathrine Elizabeth Auman and
William John Gillis, soloists.
The soloists are cousins of the
hride.
Mr. Gillis gave his daughter
in marriage. She wore a formal,
princess ? line gown of satin in
natural silk white made with
long - sleeved bodice and a
scalloped romance neckline.
Lace motifs centered the
length of the front of the gown
and the lower edge of the
cathedral length train was
bordered with lace. The bride's
camelot cap of seed pearls with
a satin bow in the back held a
cathedral - length mantilla veil
of candlelight silk illusion
overlaid with three tiers of
elbow length illusion. Around
her neck, she wore a small
engagement ring pendant given
to her by Mr. Turner on their
first Christmas together. She
carried her mother's white
satin wedding prayer book,
decorated with stephanotis and
gypsophita around a gold -
throated orchid.
Mrs. James Floyd McKethan
of Boone was her cousin's
matron of honor. Miss Juanita
Joy Turner, sister of the
bridegroom, was maid of
honor. Mrs. Roger Riley
McLean of Wilmington, cousin
of the bride, was a bridesmaid.
The honor attendants and Mrs.
McLean wore aqua blue
shantung gowns featuring high
waistlines, scooped necklines
and cape sleeves. The low
backs were accented by big
bows at the top of full panels.
In their hair the attendants
wore ropes of seed pearls
created by a North Carolina
craftsman. They carried
colonial bouquets of mixed
summer flowers.
The junior bridesmaids, all
cousins of the bride, were Miss
Mary Gaston Mashburn and
Miss Melissa Morgan Mashburn
of Colorado Springs, Colorado
Miss Georgia Ann Green and
Miss Kaihrine Ann Hamilton
and Miss Sharon Leigh Johnson
of Raleigh. They were dressed
in gowns of while and pink
flowers on a blue background,
designed with high round
necklines, empire waists,
circled by pink velvet ribbon
sashes, and short, puffed
sleeves. They carried^rfusegays
similar to those of the honor
attendants.

(olorado Springs, Colorado
attended as Mr Turner's best
nun. Usheis were James David
Gillis and Joseph Harmon Gillis
of Fayctteville. brothers of the
biidc; Loyd Fdwurd Auman,
cousin of the bride, and'
Ronald Keith Bruton , both of
Fayctteville; Fddie Green of
Reidsville, and Roger Riley.

bude's parents entertained

couple will travel to Fairfield,
California, making extended
slops in Colorado Springs.

will visit Captain and Mrs. John
MclMalt Chilis Jr.
The bride is a graduate of
leace College. Raleigh, and
North Carolina Stale
University where she majored
in sociology. She has done
graduate work at N.C.S.U.

United Stales Air Force He
attended Napa College. Napa.
California, and is a student al

night for a bridal shower
honoring Miss Vicki Lynn
Harton, August bride ? elect.
Upon their arrival, the
honoree. her mother, Mrs. Otis
Harton, and her grandmother,
Mrs. Sarah Garner, were
presented corsages of white
carnations.
Yellow and green
decorations were used
throughout the house. The 38
guests were served cake
squares, punch, nuts and mints.
Out of town guests included
Mrs. Odell Melton of Raeford.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Turner of
Fairfield, California,
entertained twenty members of
the wedding party at dinner at
Seven Mountains on Friday
evening.
The candlelit tables were
decorated with magnolia.
An after - rehearsal party
was given Saturday night at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm
Dobbin Gillis Jr., uncle and
aunt of the bride, and Mrs.'
tyalcolm Dobbin Gillis Sr.,
grandmother of the bride.

Miss Gillis was honored at a
bride's luncheon on Tuesday,
August 3, at the home of Mrs.
Loyd Edward Auman in the
Seventy ? First community.
Hostesses were Mrs. Loyd
Edward Auman, Mrs. Gilbert
Lewis Lindsay, Mrs. David
Fairley Lindsay, and Mrs. John
Harmon Lindsay, cousins of
the bride - elect.
The house was decorated
with flowers from the gardens
of the hostesses. Miss Gillis: her
mother; Mrs. Carl Turner, and
Mrs. Malcolm Dobbin Gillis Sr.
and Mrs. Anton Pollmann,
grandmothers of the bride -
elect and the prospective
bridegroom were presented
corsages of white carnations.
The bride's table was spread
with cutwork linen and
centered summer flowers. The
guest tables were covered with
white linen cloths and
decorated with ivy.
Miss Gillis was* presented a
gift in silver.
Places were laid for twenty -
one guests.

Mrs. Bobby Carter was
bridge club hostess on
Thursday evening. Visitors to
the club were Mrs. Leonard
Frahm and Mrs. Carlton Niven.
Mrs. Carter served dessert
when guests arrived And nuts
and iced drinks during play.
Prizes went to Mrs. John.W.
McPhaul for club high score
and to Mrs. Frahm for visitors.

Nicholson's bridge club and
two guests, Mrs. J.W. Walker
and Mrs. June Johnson, met
Thursday night at her home on
Magnolia St. She served
homemade ice cream and
cookies when her guests arrived
and iced drinks and

Mrs. William Lamont was
winner of the club prize and
Mrs. Johnson received the
visitors award.
Mike Jordan came home
Sunday from Wake Forest
University where he attended
eight weeks of summer session.
Mrs. Riley Jordan, Kim and
Suzanne, went to Winston -
Salem Saturday to get Beth
who had been to Governor's
School at Salem College for
seven weeks.
