oJL Turner-Gillis Wedding Sunday At Galatia Miss Mary Jane Stewart Gillis of Fayetleville became the bride of Roy Turner of Fairfield, California,m in an afternoon ceremony solemnized Sunday, August 8, at Galatia Presbyterian Church. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John McNatl Gillis of Fayetteville. Mr. Turner is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Turner of Fairfield, California. The Rev. Russell Fleming officiated at the double ring service. The program of nuptial music was presented by Mason Bell, organist, and Miss Kathrine Elizabeth Auman and William John Gillis, soloists. The soloists are cousins of the hride. Mr. Gillis gave his daughter in marriage. She wore a formal, princess ? line gown of satin in natural silk white made with long - sleeved bodice and a scalloped romance neckline. Lace motifs centered the length of the front of the gown and the lower edge of the cathedral length train was bordered with lace. The bride's camelot cap of seed pearls with a satin bow in the back held a cathedral - length mantilla veil of candlelight silk illusion overlaid with three tiers of elbow length illusion. Around her neck, she wore a small engagement ring pendant given to her by Mr. Turner on their first Christmas together. She carried her mother's white satin wedding prayer book, decorated with stephanotis and gypsophita around a gold - throated orchid. Mrs. James Floyd McKethan of Boone was her cousin's matron of honor. Miss Juanita Joy Turner, sister of the bridegroom, was maid of honor. Mrs. Roger Riley McLean of Wilmington, cousin of the bride, was a bridesmaid. The honor attendants and Mrs. McLean wore aqua blue shantung gowns featuring high waistlines, scooped necklines and cape sleeves. The low backs were accented by big bows at the top of full panels. In their hair the attendants wore ropes of seed pearls created by a North Carolina craftsman. They carried colonial bouquets of mixed summer flowers. The junior bridesmaids, all cousins of the bride, were Miss Mary Gaston Mashburn and Miss Melissa Morgan Mashburn of Colorado Springs, Colorado Miss Georgia Ann Green and Miss Kaihrine Ann Hamilton and Miss Sharon Leigh Johnson of Raleigh. They were dressed in gowns of while and pink flowers on a blue background, designed with high round necklines, empire waists, circled by pink velvet ribbon sashes, and short, puffed sleeves.
