Registration Open Now For Punt, Pass And Kick Registration will begin for the 1971 Punt, Pass & Kick Competition in the showroom of Raeford Auto Company. In making the announcement, Bernard Bray, president of the dealership, said: "We're looking forward to a big local PP&K competition in Raeford. We hope all the boys 8-13 years of age in this area will come in to register and take part." Bray pointed out that PP&K - throughout its six levels of competition - is free of any charge, and that a boy need only have a parent or his guardian accompany him to the showroom to register. "Our competition here will have 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies for boys in each of the six age groups, or 18 trophies in all," said Bray. "Increasing each boy's chances of winning is the fact that he competes only against other boys in his own age group," said the Ford Dealer. "Of course there is no body contact in PP&K. It's punting, passing and place ? kicking for distance and accuracy, just as the name says. First place winners in each age group in our competition will go on to the zone competition. And from there, top winners go on up the ladder through district, area, division and national finals," he said. "This year, the national finals will be held at the Super Bowl Game January 16, 1972. The finalists and their parents as Ford's guests will tour New Orleans, enjoy a Banquet of Champions celebration, and have the chance to meet some of the top players and coaches in professional football. Naturally, we hope some of our Raeford PP&K winners will make it all the way to the finals," Bray said. The Ford Dealer further explained that each boy upon registering receives a free PP&K Tips Book. In the 1971 edition, there are competition tips by NFL stars Dave Lewis, John Brodie and Curt Knight plus all - round suggestions from Coaches of the Year Ron McCafferty and Tom Landry. The Tips Bouk also includes complete PP&K rules and helpful conditioning exercises for contestants. PP&K registrations will close at Raeford Auto Company on October 1. This is the 11th year PP&K has been sponsored by the Ford Dealers of America and the National Football League. In that time more than 7,000,000 boys have taken part in PP&K, making it the biggest and best youth activity of its kind in America. GIFTED - Richard Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Jones, S40 E. Farm Items By W. S. Young and David Bodenheimer Did you ever think that you might have a prescription for flue-cured tobacco diseases? One has been developed by Research and Extension specialists and is known as "RX System Control." This is the time to do your planning while you remember the troubles you have had in each field. You are told what to do if the disease is bad or if you had a mild case. All this can be had by asking for Circular No. 530 from the County Agent's office. The prospects for top crop yields should mean an increase in income on your farm this year. Part of this increase should be used to keep your soil as productive as possible. This can be done partly by making plans to get soil tests done and liming of fields that have a need for it. Remember erosion by water and wind is taking place all the time on your farm. Also leaching occurs by percolation down through the soil. This takes nutrients and minor elements out of reach of the plants. Liming helps to put some of the materials back in the crop production layer. So gel ready for next year's crops by making good plans this fall.
