^^\)<LakJuCu Mr. And Mrs. Lawrence McLaughlin Honored On Golden Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence E. McLaughlin, Sr. were honored on their Golden Wedding Anniversary Sunday November 14 with a Buffet dinner at their home on Route 1, Raeford. Hosts were their children. A gold color scheme was used in the living room, dining room and den. The dining table was spread with a gold cloth, with a centerpiece of yellow Chrysanthemums, flanked by gold Candelelabrums with yellow candles. A three tiered wedding cake topped with gold wedding bells graced the decoration scene. Guests called between the hours of 1 and 3 o'clock. Assisting the hosts in serving were Mr. and Mrs. Joshua Ferguson, Mrs. Lenora Washington, Mrs. Lillie Dougherty and Mrs. Shirley Clinton. Gifts were received and displayed in the den by Misses Sharon and Sylvia Clanton and Lanette McLaughlin, granddaughters of the honorees. Guests from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. John Galberth and Mrs. Bessie Currie of Southern Pines, Mr. John C. McLaughlin of Greensboro, Mrs. Etta McLaughlin and Rev. GOLDEN WEDDING ? Friends and members of the family of Mr. and Mrs. I. E. McLaughlin Sr. gathered Sunday. November 14. to help them celebrate their golden wedding anniversary. The McLaughlins are pictured at their home with the Rev. HE. Edwards who was at their wedding 50 years ago. H.E. Edwards of Maxton, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Torain of Red Springs, Rev. and Mrs. J.O. Smith of Clover. S C.. Mr. and Mrs. Willie Gilchrist of Wagram, and Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel Capel of Morven. BRIDGE Mrs. Dean Mrs. Olin Dean was hostess to her bridge club Thursday night at her home on E. Fifth Ave. She served a salad dessert and coffee when guests arrived, and a buffet of assorted refreshments was available during progressions. Mrs. Frank Kicklighter was guest for the evening. Mrs. J R Ingram won the high score prize and Mrs. Sandy Thompson was winner to the second high award. Mrs. Bennie Kelly Club members and two visitors. Mrs. A.R. Fitz.Simons and Mrs. Julian Wright, met with Mrs. Bennie Kelly on Thursday night. The hostess served dessert and coffee befoie the game and nuts, confections and punch during progressions. The club high score prize went to Mrs. Walter Coley. visitor's high to Mrs. FitzSiinons, and the bingo award went to Mrs. June Johnson. Mrs. Howell Mrs. U.L Howell entertained her bridge club members and one visitor. Mrs. Bill Moses, last Thursday evening. She served pumpkin pie and coffee when her guests arrived and iced drinks and nuts during the game. Mrs. W.T. Gibson won the club prize and Mrs. Moses was remembered with a gift. WITH OUR College Students Freda Amanda Cobb of Lumber Bridge has been lapped for membership in the Order of ihe Valkyries, the highest women's honorary society ai the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Each year the Valkyries recognize and honor outstanding women students in scholarship, leadership and service. Miss Cobb is a junior who worked as summer chairman of the Honor Court and is present Honor Court chairman, vice ? president of East Cobb and was a member of the Women's Coordinating Board. Twenty women students were inducted into the society. Michael and Linda Nugent are members of the cast and crew for Pembroke State University's comedy "The Doctor In Spite Of Himself." Michael, a sophomore majoring in history, is appearing as Lucas. Linda, a Raeford resident and a sophomore majoring in elementary education. is second assistant director. The plav will be presented Nov. 18-20. Jerry Stephen Cribbs. a member of the East Carolina University Chamber Singers, performed last weekend in Tallahassee. Fla. The Singers, a group of 21 outstanding vocal and instrumental performers from ECU School of Music, sang Respighi's "Laud to the Nativity" for the Southern Division American Choral Director's Association convention.
