APRIL 6, 1972 Around T own By SAM C MORRIS The graduating class of 1957 at Hoke County High School will be celebrating its 15th year away from school on June 17, 1972 with a reunion at the Holiday Inn in Southern Pines. Members of this class that are interested or know the present addresses of class members are asked to contact the following: Lewis Upchurch, 807 N. Main St., Raeford, N.C. 28376. Telephone 875-2163. Pat Kelly, 1843 Maryland Ave., Charlotte, N.C. 28209. Telephone 704-372-1483. Bob Tickle. Drawer L, Misenhemier. N.C. 28109. Telephone 704-463-5376. So if you can help please contact the above members of this class. The weather last Friday was a special request from the opponents of Lt. Gov. Pat Taylor who was campaigning in Hoke County that day. He couldn't get into the airport and had to land at Southern Pines which caused him to be late in arriving in Raeford. This of course cut short the time in moving around the county to meet the voters. The weather also had its effect on the two scheduled meetings planned for Lt Gov. Taylor and caused a halt to a store to store campaign. He was in the county last Friday and met many people and was happy at the outcome after the way things turned out. He told a group of us at the Civic Center that this was the hardest work he had ever done. There are two kinds of politicians the Lt. Gov. said. One kind wants to stay up all night, drink and talk and the other kind, those who don't drink, want to get up at daybreak and have an early morning breakfast. He concluded by saying that he was expected to join both groups. So from this you can imagine the pace that the candidates are going through. We don't know how anyone could go through this pace for seven days a week over a span of three or four months. The game of golf can cause anyone to look like a duffer at times. When Arnold Palmer made a birdie on the 15th hole in the GGO we would have bet anyone that the two stroke lead would hold up. but it didn't. On the par three 16th hole he took a triple bogey six and fell behind two other golfers. So you see this is what keeps all of us going back to the course every weekend. So wives please understand that even the pros have hard days too. One of the areas which needs improvement, according to Hunt, is the legislative branch of government "Our legislature is not operating in a modern and up to date fashion ... we need re - organization."
