Social Security News C. V. SHfcLTON FIEI H REPRESENTATIVE l ayettevilk Social Security Office I've been harping in these columns to call Fayettcvillc to file your claim for Social Security benefits! To this sou might well reply that that is fine, but I have to make a long distance call to Fayettcvillc from where I live, and this will cost me money. Also, since I understand it might take from 15 to 45 minutes to file my claim via the telephone, this could really run my phone bill up I am sorry if I have confused anyone regarding a (declaim, as we call it. There arc sevcial ways we can overcome anyone wishing to file his claim by phone from running up his phone hill. First, all you need do is phone us in Fayettcvillc at 483-2661. and let the person you speak to kYtow that you are interested in tiling a claim for social security benefits That person will get your name and phone number and have one o f o u i claims representatives call you back. All of this shouldn't take more than the initial three minutes allowed for a lung distance call and the charge should not be more than 45 cents Second, if you want to save the 45 cents involved in a long distance call, y ou can drop us a line or mail us a post card asking to have your claim filed by phone Include your name and telephone number, and wc will call you. At this point, you may well be wondering that all of these long distance calls arc going to cost the Social Security Administration a lot of money This is not so. as the Social Security Administration makes use of the Federal Telecommunications System which is a leased phone system for which there is a flat monthly charge not bascc upon the total number of lonj distance calls made Again, our telephone number in Favcltcvillc i 483-2661 (all us' NEW OFFICER - Mrs. Hubert Cameron (right) hands Mrs. Robert Town send the key of office of president of the Raeford Women s Club at their installation meeting last week.
