Farewell Courtesies Shown Mrs. Pope Several parties were given recently as farewell honors for Mrs. Graham Pope who will leave Raeford in early June to make her home in Cleveland, Tenn. Wednesday, May 8, Mrs. George King entertained with a coffee at her home from 10 until noon. Upon her arrival, Mrs. Pope was presented a corsage of white chrysanthemums by her hostess. Guests were invited into the dining room where the table was spread with a linen and lace cloth and centered with an arrangement of mixed yellow and white spring flowers. Mrs. Charles Hosteller poured coffee. Mrs. Robert G. Townsend and Mrs. John Biddix also assisted in serving assorted party foods. Mrs. Pope received a gift of pewter from the hostess. Approximately 30 guests called during the appointed hours. Mrs. Carroll Wilbum, Mrs. David Scott Currie and Mrs. Jesse Jones were SPECIAL LEARNING CENTER SUMMER SESSION 8 wks. June 11-Aug 1. Roses and mixed flowers were used on the dining room table and two smaller tables where places were laid for 16 guests. The hostesses remembered Mrs. Pope with a gift of crystal. Mrs. J.B. McLeod, Mrs. C.R. Clark and Mrs. Benny McLeod gave a buffet luncheon Saturday at the McLeod pond. Yellow daisies and ivy were used in arrangements throughout the house and on three small luncheon tables. Mrs. Pope was presented a farewell gift by the hostesses. - Wednesday at 12:30, Mrs. Carson Davis Jr. and Mrs. Ed Hart entertained with an informal luncheon at the Davis home on Fulton St. Their gift to Mrs. Pope was a ceramic jardiniere. Roses and gypsophila centered the dining room table where places were marked for eight guests. Guests with Mrs. Pope included Mrs. George King, Mrs. Charles Hosteller, Mrs. Robert Townsend, Mrs. Thomas Staton and Mrs. Jerry Goza. Births Mr. and Mrs. Bill Harris of Cincinnati, Ohio, announce the birth of a son, Jeffrey Nathan, on May 20. Mr. Harris is the son of Mr. and Mrs. T. Jeff Harris. Junior Women's Club Director To Speak Here Young women with an interest in theii community and civic projects are being sought by a group of local young women who are investigating the organization of a Junior Woman's Club. The Junior Woman's Clubs Inc. is a part of the General Federation of Woman's Clubs, an international organization. Membership is limited to women 19 to 35 years of age. Objectives are service through national, state and local projects. Projects that Junior Gubs throughout the county support are the National Kidney Foundation and Women Advocates for the Mentally Retarded. Special interests for North Carolina Juniors are the Children's Home Socicty and Volunteers in Public Schools. Women in Hoke County who are interested and would like to learn more Personals Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jones and children spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.L Smith at Surf City. Mr. and Mrs. Carson Davis Jr. were in Washington, D.C. for the weekend and attended the board meeting of the National Association of Home Builders. Jimmy Wood graduated Sunday from Lees-McRae College and his parents. Mr. and Mrs. James Wood attended the ceremonies. Monday they were in Charlotte for a merchandise show. Mr. and Mrs. Younger Snead Jr. and sons spent the weekend at their cottage at Topsail Beach. Mrs. Pauline Kennedy of Seventy-First spent the weekend with her father, Paul Barbour of Route 2. Mrs. Kennedy's son Donald, who is a student at South Western Seminary in Ft. Worth, Tex., was by to visit his grandfather and will be here for the summer. Monday guests of Mrs. Kate Blue Covington were Mrs. John M. Ray of Hope Mills and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Beach of Catskill, N.Y. Mrs. Beach is the former Katie Lee Culbreth of Raeford. Mr. and Mrs. T.C. Davis spent the past week at Holden Beach. Mr. and Mrs. Crawford Thomas and daughter, Mary Gwen, were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Ashburn in Apex. Guests of Mr. and Mrs. H.L Gatlin for the weekend at Topsail Beach were Miss Helen Dickson of High Point and Miss Thelma Limehouse of Summerville, S.C. Mrs. J.P. Harmon and son Johnny Pat, who is a student at UNC-Chapel Hill, spent Saturday in Raeford. Mrs. Harmon has been staying in Chapel Hill and visiting her husband who is a patient at Duke Hospital.
