CONSTITUTION "CONSTITUTION WEEK" I 14-U GUEST SPEAKER - Burlington's Ron Bui lard is welcomed by DECA president Donna Poe before delivering a speech to the Hoke High business students last Thursday. DECA News By Andrew McEtchern The Distributive Education class had a guest speaker last Thursday. Mr. Ron Bullard of the Dye Division at Burlington Mills is the assistant personnel manager. Mr. Bullard spoke on several aspects of looking for a job and taking an interview. He informed the class of Burlington's philosophy of selecting people for jobs and promotions. He said when a promotion comes up, they look first for people within the company, and then to outsiders. He also stated what he would look for when interviewing. He stressed dressing properly, because the first impression you make is usually the lasting one. said when looking for a job be businesslike, know something about the business itself. After Mr. Bullard's talk, the class asked him questions. Prior to Bullard's visit, the marketing classes and DE class had been studying how to take an interview. Each student would take turns being interviewed. After the interviews were completed in the DE class, the class voted on who took the best interview. Donna Poe was the winner, and will go on to compete against the winners of the two marketing classes. Health Careers Club Starts At Hoke High By Kathy Jude and Ann Melton The Hoke High Health Careers Club is off to a start for its first complete year with a variety of planned activities. The Health Careers Club is a co-educational careers club sponsored by the Health Careers Program of the North Carolina Hospital Association. The purpose is to bring together young people to explore the health field, to share interests, to grow as individuals by working together and to learn about professional and community life in which they will soon participate as informed citizens. ? Planned activities include: Chartering for state membership; field trips to hospitals and health-related industries; health fairs; a banquet, attending regional and state convention; and club programs with guest speakers and films. Officers elected by the Hoke High chapter are Ann Melton, president; Kathy Jude, vice-president; Teresa Wright, secretary; Margaret Rogers, treasurer; Janice Womack, reporter; and Patti Lane, photographer. Mrs. Sally Young, registered nurse and health occupations teacher, will be the club's advisor. Teachers Pick Thompson The chairman of the English Department at Hoke High has been named Teacher of the Year by the county chapter of Association of Classroom Teachers (ACT). Jerry F. Thompson, who teaches eleventh grade English, was chosen by the group which is affiliated with the N.C. Association of Educators. Thompson is a native of Star, N. C? and was graduated from Wake Forest University in. 1964. He received his M. A. in teaching from UNC at Chapel Hill.. Thompson has been a teacher for nine years, and has been at Hoke High for the past six. He has been a member of professional organizations, including the National Education Association, state and local N.C. Association of Educators, and the National Council of Teachers of English. He has been faculty advisor for the student yearbook EKOH for the past five years. Thompson resides on Hwy 211 outside Raeford. Jerry h\ Thompson Recreation Panel To Meet The Hoke County Recreation committee will meet tonight (Thursday) at 7:30 pjn. in city hall. The meeting ii largely an organizational one. with manyjpf the members newly appointed to th/board, chairman Benny McLeod said. Some of the newer members are yet go be approved by the county commiaioners, he aid, although confirmation is expected. Members to the board are Mrs. W. E. Willis, Dick Lovett, Mrs. Milo Postel, Mrs. Carson Davis, Jr., George Wood, Robert Doby, Phil Ricks, Harold Brewer, and Palmer Willcox. McLeod said he hoped the recreation needs study, being prepared by JohrvJ Holmes of the department of economk and natural resources, would be available for the Thursday meeting. Recreation committee meetings are open to the public.
