Baker-Stephens Couple
Married December22nd
Miss Glynda Jan Stephens, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. James Stephens, and
Roger Dale Baker, son of George
McKinley Baker, and the late Mrs Baker,
were united in marriage at three o'clock,
Sunday afternoon, December 22, at
Gethsemane Baptist Church in
Fayetteville. The Reverend Robert
Doan, pastor, officiated at the double
ring ceremony which the bridal couple
composed.
Mrs. Paul Elkins Jr. provided the
wedding music. John Ray Daniel,
brother - in ? law of the bride, lighted
the candles. Mrs. John Ray Daniel, sister
of the bride, assisted at the bride's
registry.
Miss Stephens and Mr. Baker entered
the church together.
, The bride wore a gown of antique
white crepe with a portrait neckline
edged in appliqued antique white roses
of Alencon lace. The bodice was molded
into a deep band which encircled the
waist and was adorned.with Alencon
lace designs. Long tapered sleeves were
accented with rose pethl appliques at
the wrists and was repeated on the trim
of the matching lace of the biased hand
coverlet. The floor length gown swept
into a chapel train. The double - tiered
illusion veil was edged in single rows of
antique white Venetian lace and was
held by a Oamelot cap adorned with
roses, daisies and pearls, and completed
with a double nylon bow at the base.
The veil was made by the bride. She
carried a Colonial bouquet of white
carnations interspersed with Christmas
red rosebuds with red and white
streamers.
Mrs. Stephens chose for her
daughter's wedding a pastel blue
polyester knit dress with matching
accessories. She wore a double white
carnation corsage. The two
grandmothers and the great ?
grandmother of the bridal couple were
remembered with white carnation
corsages.
For traveling the bride wore a white
polyester knit dress with a pink skirt.
Rotnan tapestry designed flowers circled
the waist. She wore matching
accessories, and a pink and white
carnation corsage.
Following the wedding trip, the
bridal couple will reside at 406 West
Central Avenue in Raeford.
? The bride and groom are seniors at
Hoke County High School.
Buffet Supper
For Bridal Couple
Mr. and Mrs. Neil Senter and their
son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Bill Senter of Winstbn-Salem,
entertained with a buffet supper
Thursday evening honoring Lt. and Mrs.
Rodney Guthrie who were married on
December 21.
Fruit punch was served in the den
and then guests were invited into the
dining room where the buffet table was
centered with a silver candelabrum
arranged with red candles and holiday
foliage. Three small tables in the living
room were decorated with candles and
holly.
Mrs. Guthrie, the former Diane
I pchurch, received a rose pink camellia
to compliment her rose velvet jacket.
Patients Feted
Raeford Moose Lodge No. 1809
entertained patients at Open Arms Rest
Home on Friday afternoon.
Each patient was served ice cream
and cake by Mrs. Donald White, Mrs.
'Odell Melton, Mis. Hilman Edens and
Mrs. Fred Foster.

Post-Rehearsal Party
On Saturday evening, Mr. and Mrs.
John Daniel entertained with a cake
cutting at their home on Bethel Road
for Miss Stephens and Mr.JJaker. Guests
were the bridal couplt^ immediate
families. Upon her arrival Miss Stephens
was given a white carnation corsage
The Daniel home was decorated in
the Christmas tradition. The dining
room table was spread with a lace cloth
and centered with three Christmas red
candles, the "center one encircled with
red and white carnations.
Gracing one end of the table was the
three - tiered wedding cake, made by
the bride's great ? aunt. Mrs. Leon
Thrower.
Miss Stephens and Mr. Baker cut the
first slice. Afterwards. Mrs. James
Stephens, mother of the bride, served
cake and Mrs. John Daniel, sister of the
bride, poured punch.

Mr. and Mrs. Leon Gatlin and daughter;
Susannah and C'het Townsend of
Charlotte spent Tuesday until Thursday
with Mr. Gatlin's parents. Mr. and Mrs.
H.L. Gatlin. Susannah remained for a
visit with her grandparents until Sunday
while her parents attended a eonfercnee
in New York City.
Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Wright and children
of Winston-Salem spent Christmas with
his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Julian Wright.

Mrs. Claude Bishop of Goldsboro. and

Mr. and Mrs. Louis Fogleman Jr. and
sons of Greensboro, and Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Dickson of Raleigh, spent
Christmas with their parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Paul Dickson.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Willis, Mrs. Edwin
B. Newton and Edward McNeill
attended the Godwin- Burkhart wedding
in Memphis, Tenn;, last weekend.
Mrs. John Thomas Haire has returned
from a two week visit w ith her daughter
and family, Mr. and Mrs. Michael
Gleason, in Joliet, III. Mr. Haire joined
her there for Christmas and they came
home Thursday.
Mr. and Mrs. B.B. Cole Jr. and family of
Columbia. S.C., visited Mr. and Mrs.
B.B. Cole and Mr. and Mrs. W.M. Hair
during the holidays.
Lt. and Mrs. Rod Guthrie will leave
today for their new home at Ft.
Huachuca, Ariz.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Willis and son
Wayne spent the holidays in Gastonia
with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. tarl McClain.
Mr. and Mrs. lorn Caulk of Middleburg,
Va., and Mr. and Mrs. R.S. McCleskey
of Winston-Salem, are expected to arrive
this week for a visit with Mrs. Clyde
Upchurch Sr.
Miss Sarah Morris of Virginia Beach, Va.
spent Christmas holidays with Iter

A.A. Pernell returned to her home in
Louisburg Tuesday after a visit with her

Miss Ann McBryde FitzSimons,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Roux
FitzSimons, and Michael Wade Dietzel,
son of Col. (ret.) and Mrs. Joseph
Mehrtn Dietzel of Lumberton, were
mairied Thursday, December 26, at the
home of the bride. The Rev. John C.
Ropp officiated for the 11:00 a.m. vows
in the presence of the immediate family.
White poinsettias, white candles and
Christmas foliage were arranged on the
living room mantel to form an
improvised altar.
The bridal couple entered together.
She wore a French blue crepe dress and
had a shoulder corsage of white roses.
The dining room table was covered
with white linen and centered with an
antique silver candelabrum with red
candles and holly. Open face
sandwiches, chicken puffs, tarts,
assorted confections and coffee were
served. Mrs. Tom McBryde, the bride's
aunt, poured coffee. She was assisted in
serving by the bride's sister, Mrs. C.H.
Humphrey.
The newlyweds are at home at 4801

The bride, a graduate of Hoke
County High School, was graduated
cum laude front Winthrop College with
a B. A. degree in history. She is
employed by the Wake County
