Lady Bucks Rip Devils, Scots By Tondra Jack ton Last Thursday night the Lady Bucks defeated the Red Devils from Red Springs with a resounding 38-17 victory. Hoke started with a change in defense which proved, to be a great factor in the outcome of the game. During the first half, the game was played at a rather slow tempo, with a 14-11 half time score with Hoke in the lead. The second half proved to be a little quicker paced, while Hoke continued to surge ahead. Red Springs was led by Beth Tyndall with eight points, while the Bucks were led by T. Jackson with 21. K. Little had ten. Hoke had a good night from the free throw line, hitting 70%, while the Devils only managed 24%, and also o.nly 28% from the floor. Coach Long expressed hope that the change in defense was an improvement and determined the percentages of Red Springs. "Our team has come a long way since our first ball game". In the last game before the holidays. Hoke's Lady Bucks defeated Scotland's Scots by the score of 47-41. At the beginning of the game, Hoke played very aggressively on offense while the defensive game was a little sluggish. This resulted in Hoke trailing at the half, 24-21. The Bucks began the second half by connecting turnovers made By Scotland into points. K. Little, although hurl, began to hit from the outside, making eight of her 17 points. T. Jackson received good passes from M. Miller and A. Bease, converting them into 13 of her 21 points. Although the Lady Bucks were still behind one point at the end of the third quarter, the fourth quarter proved to he an exciting one. The Bucks began outscoring the Scots. Hoke was ahead by seven points when the game began to turn because of Scotland rebounding. In less than two minutes Scotland had outscored Hoke by 12 points. With two minutes left in the fourth quarter. Hoke started converting Scotland's crucial turnovers into points. In the final quarter, the Lady Bucks outscored the Lady Scots 18 points to their 10. "I am very proud of the performance of Kathy Little and Tondea Jackson as well as the team as a whole. These are some great young women and I'm very fortunate to be a part of such a team.
