"The Law merit badge is broad in scope so that it will give a Scout an opportunity to explore law as a career and to be familiar with the knowledge about law that affects his daily life." Hodges. a $ George Movnor Maynor Named Athlete Of The Week Hoke High's George Maynor was named 'Athlete of the Week' last Thursday by the Fayetteville Times. Tile o-foot>2 guard was selected for his 51-point performance in the Clinton game Jan. IO--a 84-64 win for the Buck's IOth straight victory. Maynor hit 15 from the floor and connected with one of two free throws to take scoring honors that night. In an interview with Bill Kirbv Jr., sports wrtter for the Times. Maynor sard of his award, "It's a terrific feeling. I played all light bur both myself and the team could have done better. We didn'i play well against Clinton and we didn't play well T uesday against Scotland." The Bucks added laurin burg-Scotland to their string of victories on Jan 14. downing the Scots 84-71. "The thing we have to do is correct the mistakes we have been guilty of if we plan to continue winning ball games," the 17-year-old senior told Kirby. Against Clinton, Maynor scored 28 points in 20 minutes. He spent much of the game against Scotland on the bench wiih ton! trouble and scored nine points. "We're not a one-man show at Hoke," Maynor said. "We are a team and when I saw teammates like Alphonso Haynes and Allen Thomas open, I passed off. They get the job done as well as I can." The North C aroltna State f orest Nurseries report that their inventories of loblolly and slash pine seedlings are exhausted. White and longleaf pine seedlings are in plentiful supply. It is possible that some loblolly seedlings may be available at a later date. The Wildlife Resources Commission has free wildlife habitat plantings for distribution. Available ate annual and permanent seed mixtures and a limited supply of several other types of planting materials. Application lorms are available from the Soil Conservation Service, County Agents and Wildlife Piotectors. Some information has been received in the office about the advantages and disadvantages of purchasing a Clemson type automatic tobacco harvester. It also gives some specific practices that must be done to insure success in harvesting. If you are thinking of purchasing one. the material might be of help in making your decision. We also have some information on total pounds of tobacco for this year and the amount that was leased and transferred last year.
