Hoke Seniors Try For Grant Two Hoke High seniors have been chosen to compete for the Sallie Southal! Cotten scholarship of the North Carolina Federation of Women's Clubs.' They are Susan Croft and Pam Dockery. The girls will be competing at the district meeting at Campbell College on March 1. One winner will be chosen to vie in the state finals for the S1,250 scholarship given each year to an outstanding girl graduate in the state. The scholarship may be used at any state-supported institution. Nominees are chosen on the basis of character, scholastic ability, intellectual potential, leadership, school and community activities and need for financial assistance. Mrs. Steeva Snead, a very talented, local, young woman, gave the program on antique dolls. She presented several of the dolls in her collection and their histories. Doll books from her collection were also on view for the members to examine and enjoy during the social hour. Mrs. C.F.. Willis presided over the business session, at which time activities were endorsed for the remainder of the year. Susan is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.L. Croft of Aberdeen. She has been an active member of the chorus and chorale at Hoke High. She is a member of the French Club, the National Honor ?Society, SAF., Science Club, Senior Hall of Fame, 4-H Club and the adult church choir. She was student member for the district Teacher of the Year committee, a delegate to the SAK convention in Rocky Mount and a member of the N.C. choral workshop. She attended the Governor's School, was Sunday School vice-president, county representative in the state 4-H dress revue and church delegate for the Baptist Associational Youth.
