The worship schedule at Sandy Grove United Methodist Church changes next Sunday, March 2 - worship at 9:4$ a.m., Sunday School at 11 a.m. A barbecue plate dinner will be held at Sandy Grove on Saturday, March 8, from 11 a.m. to 8 pm. Hoke Senior Visits UNCG Orientation Sharon Wood of Raeford recently attended "Operation 79". a special program designed to acquaint high school seniors with the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. The program was called "Operation 79" because the next class of entering freshmen will graduate in 1979. A senior at Hoke County High School, she is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy W. Wood. Rt. 3, Raeford. The students had an opportunity to meet with UNC-G faculty members and discuss their academic interests. In addition, they met with student leaders on campus and learned about extracurricular activities at UNC-G. The entire program was designed to assist the students as they make their decisions about where to go to college. College News James Attaway, Jr., of Raeford has been named to the fall semester Dean's List at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington where he is a sophomore majoring in ore-engineering. To qualify for the Dean's List, one must compile at least a J.O quality point average for the semester and make no grade lower than a "C. Atuway is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Attaway, Sr., of Raeford. Jane llames, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Julian Barnes of Rock fish, has bean .named to the dean's list at Meredith College. McNeill Four Named Outstanding Teachers At Hoke High Four Hoke High teachers have been nominated as outstanding secondary educators by Principal Allen Kdwards and will be included in the "Outstanding Secondary Educators in North Carolina" yearbook. Those nominated arc Miss Emma Jean Mims, Robert H. Gatlin. Margaret H. Peden. and Mrs. NeUI A. McNeill. This is the first year Hoke High has participated in the national program recognizing instructors in secondary schools, publicity chairman Marilyn Semones said. Selection is made on the basis of years of service, outstanding reputation in the classroom, participation in extracurricular activities, community contributions, and high regard for students, she said. Miss Mims. a native of Raleigh, is a graduate of Shaw University with a B.S. in Science. She taught at Upchurch School before coming to Hoke High, where she is now assistant principal. She is a member of the National Science Teachers' Association. NEA, NCAK, and the Classroom Teachers' Association. Mr. Gatlin is a native of Raeford -and received his B.S. in Civil Engineering from N.C. Slate University in 1931. He taught at Duke University before coming to Hoke High, where he taught occupational education until his retirement last month. He served on the Board of Education for nineteen years. Mrs. Pedcn* a native of Hantlet, has been teaching for 32 years. She graduated from Fbra Maodonald College in 1943 and began her career in Scotland County schools. She has been an instructor of homemaking and consumer education at Hoke High for 26 years. She is a member of numerous professional organizations and has served on state committees. Mrs. McNeill was graduated cum laude from Flora Mac'donald College with a double major in voice and music. She came to Raeford as a music education teaclter and currently teaches Music Theory, Music Appreciation, and Chorus and Chorale. Mrs. McNeill was chosen Teacher of the Year' by the Raeford Woman's Club in 1961. She is an active member of many music education professional organizations. Boucher, Valliant, Okla., 67 in a 55 mph zone, SIO, costs; Optional School At Hoke High An optional extended day school is being operated by Hoke High for students who are not attending regular school, Mrs. Betty Rogers of Hoke High announced. The program enables students to earn credit toward a diploma, prepare to return to regular school, attend vocational classes, and receive job placement assistance. To be eligible for the program, prospective students must be between 16 and 18 yean old, not presently in school, able to attend school while working full or part-time, and be recommended by Principal Edwards or program advisor Leslie Frahm. Interested persons who qualify should contact either Mr. Frahm at the Board of bducation offices or Miss bmma Simms at Hoke High.
