The S.A.E. held a meeting last
Tuesday night, it was pertaining to their
trip on Saturday March 1, 1975. The
S.A.E. members went to Duke for a
meeting. Daniel Norton introduced
Steve Morgan by imitating John Wayne
and Ed Sullivan. Steve won over the
other candidates running for Vice
President. Congratulations to Steve.
The Hoke County High School
Chorus and Chorale participated in the
Eastern Region No. 3 Chorale Festival
and Workshop held in Wilmington at
UNC-W, Friday February 28. The
Chorale received the rating of Superior.
The Chorus sang for criticism only and
received complimentary remarks from
the adjusticator. Accompanist for the
Chorale is Danny Dial, a senior and Tara
Barnes, a junior, for the Chorus. The
event was sponsored by the Choral
Section of the North Carolina Music
Educators Conference. A total of 700
vocal music students from Cerro Gordo,
Clinton, Fayetteville, Hamlet,
Laurinburg, Raeford, Rockingham,
Tabor City, Wilmington, and Whileville
attended the Festival.
Erving C. Covert, chorale director at
Walter Williams Senior High School in
Burlington served as adjusticator and
clinician. Bob T. Alexander, director of
choral music at John T. Hoggard in
Wilmington, was chairman of the
Festival.

Squad Completes Training
Twenty of Hoke County Rescue
Squad members received word this week
that they have passed the three - hour
slate Hmergency Medical Technician

Mrs. Jackie Wimberly. an RN with
Burlington Industries here, was notified
by Al Minor. Region N Council
btnergency Medical Service
Coordinator, that all Hoke Squadsmen
completing the classes, passed the
practical and w ritten examination.
Mrs. Winhcrly was hired by Robeson
Technical Institute, accredited by the
slate ol North Carolina, to train
potential HMT's as the class
coordinator. Her duties consisted of
maintaining roll call, furnishing medical
doctors for two of the three hours
instruction each night and conducting
the one hour practical exercise after
each.
She also furnished three local exams
before the final.
The classes began October 7th on
Monday and Wednesday nights except
lor the month of December and ended
february 12th. This includes 75 hours
in class room and 10 hours in the
emergency room at Moore Memorial
Hospital.
Instructors- for classes were the
current resident surgeon al McCain
Hospital. These doctors, from Duke
University Hospital arc here for four
months, Oateen Hospital near Asheville
lor four monihs then conclude at VA
Hospital in Durham. N.C.
Dr. Kent Jones taught the first half of
lite course and Dr Roger Millard
finished the last half.
The course began with a total of 50:
25 squadsmen. 2 national guardsmen, 2
registered nurses. 2 from Red Springs
and one other local woman.
Of those attending five dropped out
of the course and one failed. A total of
24 will be certified as limergcncy
Medical Technicians.
Earl Conoly, squad commander, said
"We started the course here in our
building for anyone needing the
certification and although participation
was disappointing the attendance did
hold up well." "Krankly I was really
surprised when Al Minor called and told
me Hoke County Rescue Squad is the
first squad in the state that all
squadsmen who completed the course
also successfully passed the state
administered examination."
A brief ceremony was held last
Monday night to present certificates of
completion from Robeson Technical
Institute. The wives of members were in
attendance as Mrs. Wimberley presented
the squadsmen their certificates.
Also in attendance were Ralph
Barnhart. John Balfour, and James A.
Hunt, County Commissioners; Graham
Clark and Robert Weaver. City Board;
Leonard Wiggins, Chief of Police; Jessie

(DPDO) has scheduled a local spot bid
sale for March 13.
Starting Tuesday property to be sold
may be inspected at the DPDO between
8 a.m. and 3 p.m. weekdays until the
sale. A property listing is available upon
request from the DPDO.

office equipment, chairs, sedans, trucks,
restaurant equipment, desks, stoves,
refrigerators, typewriters, adding
machines, television sets and clothing, as
well as many other items.
Bidder registration begins at 8 a.m.
March 13, and the sale at 9 a.m.
