Harvey MacGregor was engulfed in flames when the fire trucks arrived Thursday morning. The house was gutted. Blaze Guts Family Home Twelve persons escaped without injury from a house about two miles east of South Hoke School Thursday morning when a fire raged out of control. The home of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey MacGregor was termed a total loss, according to North Raeford Fire Department Chief George Baker. All of the family's belongings were destroyed and they got out with only the clothes they were wearing, he said. The five room cinderblock house was engulfed in flames when the firemen arrived and the roof collapsed within minutes. The Stonewall Fire Department was called to assist and brought their water truck. Baker said Mrs. MacGregor. who was asleep, and 11 children were in the house when the fire broke out. Mrs. MacGregor's husband had left for his job at McCain Sanitorium early in the morning. Distraught, the woman was not able to immediately determine if all 11 children were out of the burning house safely, he said. All were found in the yard unharmed, some of them crying. Cause of the blaze has not he?n determined. Baker said it appears to have started in a rear bedroom. Farm Items By W.S. College News Betty Aldridge of Gteenville, mezzo soprano, and William Kenneth Davis of Raeford, baritone, were first place winners in the 1975 Metropolitan Opera District Auditions at East Carolina University Feb. 22. They will enter the 1975 Southeastern Regional Auditions in Atlanta later this spring, competing with other young singers from the southern U.S. Purposes of the annual auditions program is to encourage young people who are gifted and trained in operatic singing and to discover new talent.
