SMASIIU8 - The occupants of this 1968 Javelin were not seriously injured in the collision which claimed three lives Saturday night. The driver has been charged with manslaughter. Four Linked To Break-in Before Nicholson Shooting Bound Over Four men charged with a breakin at a McCain hunting cabin Feb. 26 where county health worker Jessie Nicholson was beaten and shot were bound over to the grand jury on felony charges Friday. Dwighl Graham, 23, Curtis Hill, 21, Bruce Leonard King, 19, and James Franklin McNair, 28, all of Rt. 3, Raeford, waived preliminary hearings on breaking and entering and larceny charges before Judge Joseph E. Duprec. Duprce granted a motion for a bond reduction for each of the Tour, who were being held under S50.000 bond. Bond for Graham, Hill and King was set at $5,000. McNair's bond was set at $7,500. In other cases, two men linked to an armed robbery at County Line Grocery Feb. 9 waived preliminary hearings, and a third defendant was freed after the state presented no evidence and a ruling of no probable cause was found. James Mitchell Locklear, 18, 112 Graham St., Red Springs, was bound over to the grand jury on armed robbery, and Joseph Nick Hunt, 56, Rt. 4, Red Springs, will face indictment for receiving stolen goods, connected with the robbery. Bond was continued at $5,000 for Locklear and Hunt's bond was continued at $500. Carl Rogers, Jr., (alias Buckwheat), 16, Rr. 1, Red Springs, was cleared after Judge Duprce's ruling and the armed robbery charge was dismissed. Vernon L. Ferguson. Rt. 1, Raeford, waived a preliminary hearing on felony breaking and entering and larceny charges and will face action by the grand jury. Ferguson is charged with a December 1974 breakin at a Saunders Street residence in Raeford. Bond was continued at $1,000. A number of persons pleaded guilty to worthless check charges and one defendant drew two consecutive thirty day jail terms. Wardcll Jones, 25, Rt. I, Raeford, pleaded guilty to a worthless check for $10.40 to B.C. Moore's in Raeford and also a $20 check to the A&P. Jones was sentenced to thirty days on each and gave notice of appeal. Bond was set at $500. Others pleading guilty to worthless checks and receiving various sentences were: David Coley, Red Springs, $25 check to 211 Zip Mart, 30 days suspended, ordered to make restitution and court costs; Mitchell A. Graham, Rt. I, Raeford. $50 check to A&P; 30 days suspended, put on probation 2 years, ordered to make restitution and court costs within 60 days; Wanda G. Calasacco, P.O. Box 44, Raeford, $72.75 check to W. D. Wilson, 30 days suspended, ordered to make restitution and costs. Also pleading guilty to worthless check and drawing 30 day sentences, suspended with orders to make restitution, were Julius Dockery. Rt. 2, Raeford, $7.66 check to Marks Food; Arnold McRae, Raeford, $50.43 check to Western Auto; and Riley Kerns. Jr., Lumberton, $70.71 check to 211 Zip Mart. George Ray. Red Springs, pleaded guilty to worthless check for $78.55 to Parks Grocery and was ordered to make restitution and court costs. Fred L. Foster, no address listed, was found not guilty of worthless check. Larry Virgil, Rt. 2. Raeford, was found not guilty of assault on a female and forcible trespass. Leon F. Virgil. Rt. 2, Raeford, was found not guilty of forcible trespass and simple assault. Leon J. Willis, Rt. 2, Raeford. was found not guilty of assault with a deadly weapon (ADW) and the prosecuting witness was ordered to pay costs. William Wells, RFD. Raeford, pleaded guilty to larceny after the state dropped a second charge of larceny by trick and drew a six month term, suspended for five years, and orders to make restitution and costs, lie was Fined $25. Kathy K. Winburn. Shannon, pleaded guilty to shoplifting and was handed a six month term, suspended for Five years, on condition she not be convicted of larceny or shoplifting during the next Five years. She was Fined $25 and costs. Thomas McLauchlin, Jr., Shannon, pleaded guilty to public drunkenness and was sentenced to three days in jail, retroactive to date of arrest. Andcr Burns, Jr., Shannon, pleaded guilty to trespass and received a prayer for judgment continued (PJC) for a period of three years and Fined costs. Grover N. Grace, Arabia, pleaded guilty to simple assault and drew a PJC for three years and orders to pay costs. Thomas McMillian. Rt. 4, Raeford. pleaded guilty to assault on a female and received a PJC for three years and orders to pay court costs within seven days. Dan Wilkes, no address listed, pleaded no contest to assault on a female and was given a PJC for Five years and orders to pay costs. Harold D. James, Cary, N.C., was found guilty of driving under the influence (DU1) and a second charge of transporting alcohol with the seal broken in his car and drew a six month term, suspended for two years, ordered not to drive for two years, and fined S250 and exists. Breathalyzer reading was .24. according to records. James gave notice of appeal and bond was set at S400. James (J. Culp, Rt. 2, Raeford, pleaded guilty to DUI and the result was a 90 day term, suspended for 12 months, no driving for one year, except as set out in limited driving permit, and SI 50 fine and costs. Breathalyzer reading was .14, according to records. A number of defendants pleaded guilty to various driving offenses. They were: James R. Kershaw. Rt. 3, Raeford, speeding 79 in a 55 mph zone, 30 days suspended, $25 fine and costs; Gary Dial, Red Springs, 78 in a 55 mph zone. 30 days suspended. $35 fine and costs; Fdward V. Maultsby, Lumbcrton, exceeding a safe speed, $10 fine and costs, (speeding 68 in a 55 mph /one not prosecuted). Also Robert A. Mundy. Laurinburg. 80 in a 55 mph zone, 30 days suspended. $25 fine and costs; Ronald W. Stephens. Lumbcrton. 65 in a 55 mph /.one. PJC for two years, costs; James I', llandon, Rt. 1, Raeford, careless and reckless driving. 60 days suspended, $50 fine and costs; Thomas p. Wright. P.O. Box 70, Raeford, 70 in a 55 mph /.one. PJC for two years and costs. Gary A. Baldwin. 514 li. Sixth Ave., who pleaded guilty to no financial responsibility and ficticious license Jan. 24. avoided jail when Duprec granted him an extension to pay his fine. Baldwin was ordered to pay by March 21. The state entered a no) pros with leave, which means the case may be reopened, in the following cases: ferry J.
