MARCH St VISITOR - Sergio Triboni, an educator from Brazil, studied the textile education program at Hoke High recently. With him are (left) Allen h'dwards, Hoke High principal, Leon Moses, extension specialist, Triboni, and Willett Bissett. Brazilian Tours Textile Class The textile program at Hoke County High School was host to Sergio Triboni, Assistant Director of SENAI'S (National Service for Industrial Apprenticeship) Textile Technical School located in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on March 6. He came to this country to visit textile schools since SENAI plans to restructure and update its technical senior high schools, starting with the School of Textiles. Along with Hoke High, Triboni has visited textfle schools in New York City, Philadelphia, and the School of Textiles at N.CS.U. Since its beginning in 1069, the textile program here has been a source of information relating to textile education, to textile educators, textile industrial representatives and has given a presentation before the North Carolina Stale Board of Education. While in Raeford, Triboni visited the Burlington Plant. Music Boosters J. C. Knowles The newly formed Hoke High Music Booster Club will hold a kickoff dinner Monday, March 24 at 6:30 P.M. in the Gibson building. Tickets are S2.S0. J.C. Knowles, well known Raleigh historian and owner of the Sir Walter Raleigh Galleries, will be the featured speaker. Knowles is a columnist for the Raleigh Times and is the author of many articles on antiques and history for national publications. He lectures 10 over 8,000 children each year on North Carolina history. At 8 P.M., the Hoke High Band and Chorus and Chorale will perform. The Music Booster Club announced it plans to send the Chorale in national competition at Six Flags Over Georgia May 9 - II. Future plans for the club call for a southern tour, including the Bahamas, attendance at several band days, and more band activities. The Hoke County High School Library Club members are busy making plans to attend the North Carolina High School Library Association State Convention on March 21-22, 1975. in Durham, N.C. Twenty library club members are planning to attend. The Science Club has planned a trip to the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C., for May 2-4. Only 35 people will be able to make this trip. The cost is approximately S35.00, so start saving now. The first to hand in their money will be able to go. The money is to be handed into Mr. Branch or Hope Williams, soon. Mrs. Pedan's FHA Club had their covered dish supper Wednesday, March 5. Chicken, ham, potato salad and cake were served. There were 30 members present. Everyone ale plenty and had a good time. On March 12 Mrs. Pedan's FHA Club had a business meeting. A film on Vogue patterns was shown. After the meeting, refreshments were served The Hoke County High School Chorus, Chorale and Band will give a concert Monday, March 24, in the Hoke High Gymnasium. The concert will begin at K:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale by students in the chorus, chorale and hand for Si .00. Seven Health Careers Club members left immediately after school Thursday, March 13. to attend the Health Careers Club Congress held at the Four Seasons Holiday Inn.Greensboro, N.C. The Thursday night program was opened with a business meeting, alter which the delegation divided into live group sessions on nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, medical social work and mental retardation center. The candidates seeking state offices with the assistance of professional persons served as leaders of these sessions. Entertainment for Thursday night was a talent show in which different clubs entered. The guest speaker for Friday morning was Dr. George Weigand. Director, counseling Center, last Carolina University. He spoke on ways the students could prepare themselves for college and how they can succeed in college by giving tips on study habits. Dr. Sandra Thomas, Vice President for Student Development, Meredith College, was the Awards banquet speaker. Clubs receiving top honors were Granville Club, the best scrapbook, and Magnolia High School. Robeson County, the Club of the Year Award. A dance after the banquet featured "Hits and Misc." After the installation of the new state officers Saturday, a.m., the group from Hoke High returned home tired, with lots of ideas and enthusiasm. Those attending from Hoke High were Ann Melton, President, Margaret Rogers, Treasurer. Janice Womack, scrapbook and publicity chairman. Ellen Campbell, Doreen Oxendine, Gloria Smith and Pamela Norton. Sally Young, advisor, accompanied the group. Hearing On Law Set A public hearing on the proposed ordinance to establish a county planning board will be held April 7 at I I a.m. in the courtroom. The county board of commissioners, at a special meeting March 11, from the Lumber River Council of Governments.
