Cindy Charles of Gulfport, Miss, spent Monday night with Patly Chapman. afternoon. Nine members were present. The devotion was given by Mrs. W.L. McFadyen and Mrs. Julian Wright gave the treasurer's report. Mrs. Ruria Warner gave the program on "Educators of the Confederate War years and later" for Miss Eva Leach who was unable to give the program due to a recent illness. Plans were discussed for District Five UDC Convention to be held at the Fayetteville First Church Chapel, April 19. The chapter enjoyed pie and coffee during the social hour. Mrs. Archie Howard Retires As Antioch Church Organist Mrs. Archie Howard, who is retiring as organist and choir director of Antioch Presbyterian Church, was honored by the congregation with a reception Sunday afternoon in the fellowship hall. During the hours of three to five o'clock approximately two hundred guests called. H.A. McKenzie, clerk of the Session, and Mrs. McKenzie greeted guests as they arrived. In the receiving line with Mrs. Howard were her daughter and son - in ? law, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Phillips, and the Reverend and Mrs. B.F. Ferguson. Other Session members and their wives assisted in receiving: Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Conoly, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Currie, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Gibson, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Gillis, and Mr. and Mrs. Lamon Bruner, Mr. and Mrs. Hector Watson, and Mr. and Mrs. W.B. McDiarmid. Mr. and Mrs. W.D. McLeod presided at the register, and Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Batchelor said good-byes. Punch and assorted delicacies were served from a table which was centered with a candelabra arrangement of spring flowers in pastel shades. Miss Sarah McKenzie, president of the Women of the Church, and Mrs. Sarah McDonald presided at the refreshment table. Assisting in serving were Beth Currie, Judy Daniels, Julie Gibson. Joyce McKenzie, Brenda Pratt, Patricia Pratt. Cheryl Stutts and Carolyn Watson. Also assisting were Mrs. A.S. Baldwin, Mrs. W.T. Kverleigh, Miss Jeanctte McLauchlin, and Mrs. Russ Parker. Background music was provided throughout the afternoon by William Daniels at the piano. Mrs. Bill McNeill served as general chairman. At the close of the worship service Sunday morning Mrs. Howard was presented a watch and plaque as a token of appreciation from the church. Mrs. Howard has served the church as organist for more than thirty - five years, and as choir director for all but nine of those years. Active in other music circles, she has served as president of the Chaminade Music Club of Raeford.and as president of the Capital District of the North Carolina Federation of Music Clubs. She has also served as president of the Music Department of Fayetteville Presbytery. Mrs. Howard's church activities have not been confined to music. In the local Women of the Church she has held various offices and served as circle Bible teacher. In the Women of the Church of Mrs. Archie Howard Fayctteville Presbytery she has served as district chairman, secretary, historian, vice ? president, and in 1957 - 59 as president. She is currently serving a term as Presbyterial chairman of Personal Faith and Family Life. The former Sarah Hamilton, Mrs. Howard is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. H.L. Hamilton of Red Springs. She graduated from Flora McDonald College, taught in the public schools, and in later years taught private piano and voice students. She came to the Antioch community after her marriage to the late Archie Howard, long ? time elder and clerk of the Session of the Antioch Church. Shower Honors Mrs. Webb Mrs. Lin Webb was honored last Wednesday evening with a tloating stork shower at the home of Mrs. Paul Solomon with Mrs. Tommy Wilkerson. co-hostess. Mrs. Webb was presented a corsage of red and white carnations upon her arrival. A color scheme of green, yellow and white was used in decorations in the dining room and den. Guests were served punch, mints, nuts and cake squares from a table centered with a paper stork. Mrs. Webb opened and displayed her gifts as guests arrived during die evening.
