to/ dm/It Miss Jolly, Mr. Tart Wed Saturday Miss Martha Sue Jolly, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Lewis P. Jolly of Raeford, became the bride of Joseph Paul Tart, son of Mrs. J.B. Tart of Dunn, Saturday, March 22, in a double ring ceremony at the Second Baptist Church. The Rev. Ralph Thompson of Lumberton, former pastor of the bride, officiated. The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a gown of Peaud'ance with Venice floral lace bands and motifs, designed with A-line silhouette, high stand-up collar with lace motifs, and long fitted sleeves with lace trim. Wide lace bands extended down both sides of the entire front and encircled the back of the gown which was slightly gathered. A lace Camelot cap held a chapel-length mantilla veil with lace trim. She carried a cascade of white carnations, baby's breath and ivy, centered with a white orchid. Mrs. Phyliss Marcell King attended her sister as matron of honor. Maid of honor was Miss Mickie Sheperd of Raeford. Bridesmaids were Miss Phyliss Johnson of Benson, niece of the groom. Miss Gail Little of Lumberton, and Miss Wendy Sheperd and Miss Kathy Hawkins of Raeford. Junior bridesmaids were Sherrill Jolly of Raeford, sister of the bride, and Lisa Joyer of Deland, Florida, niece of the groom. Flower girls were Kimberly Rozier and Penny Wayne Turner of Lumberton. Kimberly Hawkins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Hawkins of Raeford. gave each guest a rice packet. The matron of honor wore a floor length, soft pink knit dress with high lace collar and long sleeves. The maid of honor and bridesmaids were dressed in floral knit designed like that of the matron of honor. Their headpieces, designed and made by the mother of the bride, were white hats with wide, long sashes and flowers to complement their dresses. The junior bridesmaids, flower girls and rice girls were dressed in long dresses of pink knit with high collar and long sleeves. They wore little white hats that tied in bows under the chin and carried nosegays of spring flowers. The flower girls carried baskets of spring flowers. Mrs. Wayne Turner, cousin of the bride, presided at the register. Earl Tart of Dunn served as his brother's best man. Ushers were Jimmy Mrs. Joseph Paul Tart Bryant of Dunn, Vince Wheeler of Hope Mills, Carey Gaynor of Fountain and A1 Pittman of Fayetleville. Ring bearer was Jeff Bryant son of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Bryant of Dunn. RECEPTION Following the ceremony the bride's parents entertained at a reception in the fellowship hall of the church. Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Smith of Raeford directed guests into the fellowship hall. After the bridal couple had cut the first slice of cake, it was served by Mrs. Ayliss McDuffie of Lumherton, aunt of the bride and Mrs. Gene Wheeler of Hope Mills, sister of the groom. Mrs. Harold L. Potts of Lumberton. aunt of the bride, and Mrs. Janie Johnson of Benson, sister of the groom, served punch. Goodbyes were said by Mr. and Mrs. Carl Brock of Raeford. Others who helped during the reception and wedding were Mr. and Mrs. William Scott and Mrs. Nellie Wilkes. Following the reception the couple left for a honeymoon. Upon their return, they will be at home at 130 Heath Street.Clinton. REHEARSAL PARTY On Friday night after rehearsal, the bridal couple, the wedding party and guests were entertained at a rehearsal party in the fellowship hall of the church given by Corbett Tart of Dunn. Mrs. Walton Johnson and Mrs. Cameron Johnson of Benson Mrs. Gene Wheeler of Hope Mills and Mrs. Tom Joyner of Dclanil. Fla.. sisters and sisters-in-law of Mr. Tart. The table was overlaid with white linen and centered with an arrangement of mixed spring flowers flanked by three-branched silver candelabra. Silver appointments were adorned with sprigs of greenery. Mrs. Corbett Tart served fruit punch and Mrs. Walton Johnson assisted. Also served were pastry cups with chicken salad, ham biscuits, cheese straws, toasted pecans and bridal cake squares. Mrs. Gene Wheeler greeted the guests. Mrs. Tom Joyner and Mrs. Cameron Johnson extended hospitality. Guests included the bridal couple and their attendants, the Rev and Mrs. Lewis Jolly of Raeford. Mrs. J.B. Tart, mother of the groom, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Hawkins, Mr. and Mrs. David Rozier of Lumbcrton, brothers and sisters of Mr. Tart; Mrs. Cadance Adams of Pembroke. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Shepherd of Raeford, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Turner and the Rev. Ralph Thompson of Lumberton, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick King of Raleigh. Engaged Mr. and Mrs. Robert ft'. The wedding is planned for June 28th. BRIDGE Mrs. Gordon Mrs. Earl Gordon was hostess to members of her bridge club and two visitors, Mrs. Wyatt Upchurch and Mrs. Pete Sawyer, Thursday evening. Guests were served dessert and coffee upon arrival. Nuts, pretzels, candy and punch were served during progression. Mrs. Martin Webb was given five pounds of sugar for club high score. Visitors high went to Mrs. Sawyer and Bingo to Mrs. Upchurch. Club Calendar The Education Department of the Raeford Woman's Club will meet Tuesday, April 1, at the home of Mrs. Benny McLeod at 7:45 p.m. RWC Members Receive Awards Two members of the Raeford Woman's Club were awarded ribbons Saturday at a meeting of the N.C. Federation of Women's Clubs held at Salem College in Winston-Salem. Mrs. J.C. McLean was awarded first place for a skit in celebration of the Raeford Woman's Club's 50th year entitled "Traditions in Transition". Mrs. Crawford Thomas. Jr., was selected second runner-up for one in a series of articles she wrote for The News-Journal entitled SO Years with the Raeford Woman's Club Mr. and Mrs. Mtchael Gleason and daughter. Jennifer, of Joliet. III., are spending several days with Mr. and Mrs. John T. Haire.
