Jr. Bucks
The Hoke Hi JV Bucks defeated the
Seventy-First Falcons, 10 - 8 Thursday
in a game played in Fayetteville.
Rocky Wood took to the mound for
Hoke with sophomore Dick McNeill
behind the plate. 71st had Wise and
Rothermel for their starting batters.
After both teams failed to score in
the first, Hoke jumped to a 3-0 lead in
their half of the second on a bases
loaded single by Dave Allen, and a one
out sacrifice fly by Stanley Cummings,
scoring Wood.
In the bottom of the second the
Falcons turned the trick by jumping on
Wood and scoring 4 runs before Coach
Mike Lassitor replaced Wood with
freshman Cummings.
Cummings put out the fire and by the
end of the second the Bucks were down
5-3.
The Bucks failed to score in the third
while the Falcons pushed two more
across to widen their lead to 7-3.
Wood, who moved to play third,
scored again in the forth to make it 74.
That was all the scoring until the
Buck's explosive sixth when they
capitalized on four walks, three singles,
and a hit batsman to score six runs and
take the lead for keeps, 10-7.
The final run was scored by 71st in
the bottom of the seventh but it wasn't
enough as the Bucks hung on to take
the win and raise their season record to
4-3. Cummings picked up the win for
the Bucks.

THURSDAY, APRIL 24, 19 75 PAGE 9
Bucks Down Clinton In 13 Innings
Freshman David McNeill pitched
seven innings of no-hit ball Friday as
Hoke downed Clinton 6-3 in a
conference game that went 13 innings.
McNeill, relieving starting pitcher
Allen Thomas In the sixth inning, struck
out 10 and never allowed a Clinton
batter to reach second.
At the plate,he went two for five and
knocked in three of Hoke's six runs.
"He did a real good job," Bucks
coach Terry Grier said Monday. "In
fact, McNeill has just turned in a good
week's work."
In addition to his three RBIs against
Clinton, McNeill knocked in four runs
against Pinecrest the preceeding
Tuesday for a week's total of seven,
including a two-run homer.
The Bucks lead the conference, with
a 3-0 record following the Clinton game.
Clinton scored first, with two runs in
the bottom of the first inning. Kirby
began the inning with a walk and was
sacrificed to second by Johnson and
scored on a base hit by Beale.
Beale came home on a line drive that
was too hot for Hoke left fielder Geno
McAllister to handle.
Curtis Jones led off the second inning
with a triple over the Clinton left
fielder's head to the wall and then
McNeill drove him home with a single.
Two more runs in the fifth put Hoke
ahead 3-2. A single by Donnie Monroe
and a fielder's choice by Timmy Ross
was turned in to two runs with the help
of a little larceny and a bad throw.
Monroe and Ross, in a double steal,
grabbed third and second and then
Clinton catcher Andy Beale threw the
ball into left field to score Monroe.
Ross held up at third. Walks by
Thomas and Jones loaded the bases and
a deep fly to center by McNeill sent
Ross home.
Clinton came back in the sixth inning
to tie the game at 3-3 when Johnson
singled and went to third on an error by
McAllister. Bradshaw singled him in
before McNeill took the mound to
strike out the next two men.
In his six and a third innings, Thomas
allowed four hits and three runs and
struck out four men.
As the game went into extra innings,
the Bucks barely missed several chances
to break the tie. In the seventh, with
one man out and the bases loaded,
McNeill hit into a double play. Again in
CD
the tenth, Hoke had a runner on tnuu
and couldnt get him home.
But it was lucky thirteen for the
Bucks, as Michael Allen, pinch hitting
for Mike Shaw, singled to right center.
A bunt by Monroe was mishandled,
putting Allen on third with Monroe safe
at first and then Hendrix hit a triple off
the right field wall to score both men.
Hendrix came home on a single by
Jones to add the final run.
Batting honors in the game went to
Hendrix, three for seven including a
triple and two RBIs; Curtis Jones and
George Maynor, both two for four and
McNeill, two for five, including three
RBIs.
Pitching for Clinton were Ed
Simmons, six innings, and Ricky
Barefoot. Andy Beale caught.
The Bucks will play Lumberton
tonight at Lumberton in a game
rescheduled because of the Hoke
junior-senior prom tomorrow.
