tional Meet st Tomorrow 1 undefeated Hoke girls' track will compete tomorrow in the womens' eastern sectional fleld championship meet at Senior High School. ?The Lady Bucks are defending state Aampions. More than 40 schools are .txpected to send teams to the meet. Bucks Clobber Lumberton To Increase League Lead Hie Bucks defeated Lumberton 4 - 1 in a conference game played in Lumberton last Thursday. Eddie Ramsey handled Hoke's duties on the mound, allowing four hits. Scott Coleman was losing pitcher, allowing five hits. The Bucks scored in the first inning when Noah Hendrixs and Allen Thomas both walked. A triple off the deep left-centerfleld wall by Curtis Jones brought both runners home, but Thomas was called out for failing to touch third base. Hoke collected another run in the third, when a bunt turned into a trip home on a Lumberton error. Donnie Monroe got on base with a single and then scored when George Maynor's bunt was thrown over the first baseman's head by the catcher. Lumberton gained their lone run in the fourth inning when Robbie Bennett singled, stole second base and scored on a single by Mark Johnson. The Bucks added another run in the fifth inning when Timmy Ross singled and went to second on a passed ball. He scored on Maynor's base hit. The last Hoke came in the seventh, as Lumberton overreacted to a bit of Bucks' larceny. Timmy Ross took first base after being hit by a pitched ball, stole second and went to third on a passed ball. With Elvis Buie, running for .Hendrix, on first and Ross on third, Lumberton, in what Bucks coach Terry Grier called a pickle play, unwisely tired to cut off Buie as he stole second. As the Lumberton first and second basemen closed in on Buie in a rundown, Ross' strolled home from third and Buie made it safely back to first. Thomas grounded out to the pitcher to end the game. The Bucks stole six bases during the game. "Overall, I was pretty well satisfied with the way we played," Grier said. "Thomas made two tremendous catches on line drives in the outfield and one super play with the bases loaded. McNeill at first base and Maynor at short stop were both fine on the defense. Thomas and Hendrix had no hits but they both contributed fine games defensively." Leading Hoke hitters were Maynor two hits for four times at bat and Ross, who hit one for two. Critical Game Coming Up Bucks Beat Bowman 4-1 For 6th Win ITie Bucks tuned up for their critical game with Pinecrest Friday by downing Wadesboro-Bowman 4-1 in a non-conference game here Tuesday afternoon. Bucks coach Terry Grier used his three starting pitchers and played his entire team, shaking the kinks out for the contest tomorrow that could decide a spot for Hoke in the state playoffs. "I was not too pleased with our play," Grier said. "We were sloppy, but 1 think that was because we were all looking toward that Pinecrest game." The Bucks got nine hits and made one error while holding Bowman to only four hits with two errors. "I thought our pitching staff did an outstanding job," Grier said. "Bowman is one of the best hitting clubs around and I've seen them get 16 hits in a game." Allen Thomas started the game for Hoke and pitched three innings. David McNeill took over for the fourth and fifth innings and Eddie Ramsey finished the game. Hendrix caught. Bowman pitcher was Summers with McKenzie catching. Hoke scored first in the third inning as Donnie Monroe singled and went to second on a sacrifice by George Maynor. Monroe scored on a base hit by Thomas. In the fourth inning. McNeill singled then stole second before Elvis Buie was sent into run for him. Buie came home from second when the pitcher, attempting to pick him off at second, threw the ball past the centerfielder. The last two runs were added in the sixth, when Thomas and Curtis Jones both got base hits and Michael Shaw doubled to score both runners. Bowman's only score came in the sixth when Bowman's centerfielder, McGee, singled and scored on a sacrifice by the pitcher and a single by third baseman, Milier. Leading hitters were Thomas, three for three; Monroe, two for three, and lones, two for three, including a double. The Bucks play at Pinecrest at 7:30 Friday night in a game that could be lecisive. If the first place Bucks win, it will issure them of a spot in the state playoffs. Pinecrest, who just defeated Clinton to take second place in the league, has only one conference loss and a win Friday night could put them in position to either take over the lead or tie, depending on the outcome of the last two games. "We're playing good ball now,"Grier said. "Our young players have matured. But Pinecrest has only one conference loss and you can bet they 11 be ready to play when we get to town Friday night." Grier said he was getting jittery. "We've got six straight wins now and I wish Friday would hurry up and get here." Unbeaten Trackettes End Season Nicely The undefeated Lady Buck ended their regular season last week with a clean sweep of all 14 events in a meet over Pinecrest.
