The son of Mr. and Mrs. Duncan B. McFadyen of Rt. 1. McFadyen received a BS with a major in business administration. Jacqueline McEachin received a bachelor of science degree in history and political science from Fayetteville State University in commencement ceremonies Sunday.. A graduate of Hoke High. she is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Miles Dudley McEachin of Rt. I. Red Springs. Five Hoke County students were among a record 482 graduates of Pembroke State University. Donna Jackson Kennedy of 102 Campbell St. received a bachelor's degree in math and George McFadyen of Rt. I, Raeford, earned a bachelor's degree in physical education. Also receiving bachelor's degrees were Barry Lynn Nixon, 504 Saunders St.. with a' major in biology: Cathy Plier Teague, Box 26, Raeford. with a major in elementary education and George Gary Teague, Box 26. Raeford. with a major in psychology. Brenda M. McLean was among 920 students to receive a bachelor's degree from North Carolina A&T State University. Mrs. McLean, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Luther McRae of Shannon and wife of John E. McLean, formerly of Raeford, majored in business education and while at A&T, die became a member of the National Collegiate Association for Secretaries and Student National Education Association. She has accepted a position of administrative assistant to the director of Youth Care, Inc. in Guilford County. Mrs. McLean is a 1971 graduate of Hoke High. Michael Graham Nugent of Rt. 2, Raeford, will receive a Masters of Regional Planning degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill this month. Two Hoke County students will receive Bachelor of Science degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. They are Deborah Sue Anderson, the daughter of Mrs. Frances C. Anderson of Rt. 1, Raeford and Benjamin Smith Barnwell, the son of Mr. and Mrs. B.S. Barnwell of 227 Wright St. Several Hoke County students at East Carolina University are serving practice teaching assignments this quarter. They are Mary K. Davis, 306 N. Jackson, who is teaching music at Edgecombe High School in Rocky Mount; Julia Anne Gibson, 304 W. Elwood, teaching grades one and two at Grifton Schools and Paul Livingston, teaching industrial arts at West Craven High School at Vanceboro. Nina Ruth Readdy, daughter of Mrs. Nina Readdy of Raeford received an Associate in Science degree from Mount Olive College in commencement ceremonies May 9. She plans to transfer to East Carolina University to major in nursing. While at Mt. Olive. Miss Readdy was a member of the Student Government Association, the Pom-Pom Squad, Nightingale Society and Pep Club. Linda Cole, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B.B. Cole. Jr., of Columbia, S.C., graduated cum laude from the University of South Carolina on May 10. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. B.B.Cole and Mrs. W.M. Haire and the late Mr. Haire of Hoke County. Hoke Delegate At ECU Meet Vann Pennell of Hoke High was one of about 85 coaches and student trainers who attended the East Carolina University Sports Medicine Conference May 2-3. Purpose of the conference was to provide personnel with necessary skills and techniques for a systematic program of treatment and rehabilitation of injuries. Instructors included ECU anatomy instructor Janet Schweisthal and Sports Medicine Director Rod Compton. OFFICERS - The Hoke County Jaycee Officers for 1975-76 were installed in ceremonies held Saturday night at the annual installation banquet. Officers pictured above are (Front Row L-R) Willie R. In special awards ceremonies the Jaycee of the Year Award was presented to Past President Harold Brewer and the Rookie of the Year Award (for an outstanding first year Jaycee) was presented to Gilbert Cribb. I Area Incidents Thieves Ransack Social Services Office Thieves ransacked the offices of the Department of Social Services on West Elwood Avenue apparently sometime Sunday night and police placed damages at about $200. Police Chief Leonard Wiggins said entry was made through a back window and nearly every office entered. Window glass on office doors and locks were broken. The library was also entered through a connecting door and about $7-$8 in cash is listed as missing. Several office machines had been moved and were found at the back door of the library. The premises were dusted for fingerprints and police are continuing their investigation. In other reports, about 11:45 P.M. Monday night. Officer Junior Ward discovered an attempted break-in at Caddelfs Grocery on South Stewart Street. Two windows were found broken and locks had been tampered with. Apparently no entry was made, according to police. Sheriff's deputies are investigating break-ins reported in the past several days. James Womack, Rt. 2, reported his home was entered Monday sometime between 7 A.M. -4 P.M. and a .12 gauge single barrel shotgun valued at $50 was taken. Nothing else apparently was disturbed. Entry was made through a screened porch window, according to the report. Wayne Bryde, Rt. 1, complained to deputies his home was burglarized Sunday and a stereo and speakers worth $189 is listed as missing. Entry was made by breaking the front door, according to the report. Mrs. Paul Robinson, Rt. 2, reported the Old Trail Grocery on Highway 401 was entered Sunday night but apparently nothing was taken. A guard dog had been left in the premises, according to information, and bloodstains were found on the floor. No signs of forcible entry were found. West Hoke School was broken into over the weekend, according to a complaint fded. Entry was made by breaking a window and cafeteria food was consumed. Damage to the window was put at 515. Frank Naylor, Rt. 1, Red Springs, reported a pony, a stallion,four bridles, and a saddle and blanket were stolen from Henry Goins' pasture sometime after May 6. The loss is listed at $450. Pagette Named Debbie Hammonds Debbie Hammonds has been selected to serve as a pagettc in the 1975 session of the General Assembly during the week of May 12-16. Students are chosen on the basis of school, church and community activities. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin McMillian of Rt. 4. Debbie is a member of the Hoke High Senior class. J.H.
