Young, County Agent Horse owners should have their animals vaccinated for equine encephalomyelitis Horse sleeping sickness, of one type or another, is often a serious problem during summer months when mosquito populations increase. The Eastern and Western vaccines should be given. Interested owners of horses, ponies and mules should contact their veterinarians about vaccination. Some calls have come in about cabbage going to flower without forming a head. This is a very common problem and is called "Bolting". Cabbage is bienniel and once the stem diameter has reached lead pencil size it is subject to enter the reproductive cycle, or forming of a seed stalk, after being exposed to cold temperature for around 30 days. The pesticide season is near at hand for this year. There are certain safety tips that are important for people to remember. Some are: Always read the label and follow it; keep pesticides away from food and dishes, keep chDdren and pets away from sprayed areas, do not smoke while spraying, avoid breaks or spills of pesticides, store them under lock and key and dispose of the empty containers properly. Weed control is most important in increasing the yields of most any crop. The selection of the right chemical and the right amount can assure proper results. A bulletin entitled "Chemical Weed Control Information for 1975" will give you the recommendations for all types of crops. These are available at the County Agents office. Bond Sales Sales of Series E and H Savings Bonds in Hoke County during the first quarter of 1975 were $78,533.00. This represents 24.9 percent of the County's ?Ml of $311,520.00., according to F. G. Williams, County Volunteer Chairman. Rose's Office Here Friday The mobile office of Congressmm Charlie Roae will be in Raeford Friday.
